Sligo launches new ‘Safe & Sound’ campaign
promoting responsible nightlife in town
 Campaign aims to reduce anti-social behaviour and promote respect
 Sligo is one of nine pilot regions for the new Night Time Economy
initiative launching this campaign
Sligo BID has launched a new ‘Safe & Sound’ campaign to promote responsible nightlife and
respect in the town as well as reduce anti-social behaviour, in partnership with Sligo County
Council.
Sligo is one of nine areas taking part in the Night Time Economy (NTE) pilot scheme and all
are launching their Safe & Sound campaigns in the lead-up to Christmas.
‘Safe & Sound’ aims to reduce anti-social behaviour and promote respect in towns and cities
nationwide. The campaign is a call to action for both visitors and residents to enjoy the
night-time economy safely while being considerate of their surroundings.
As part of a collaborative effort, the campaign focuses on re-educating people about the
importance of respecting their towns and cities, ensuring that nightlife remains a positive
experience for all.
Whether heading out for an evening or night of entertainment, dining, or socialising, the
campaign’s key message is simple: enjoy yourself, but be respectful of others and the areas
you visit. Over the coming weeks, you will see the ‘Safe & Sound’ campaign rolled out on
social media as well as in bus shelters and traditional media ads and also in posters all across
the town.
This is a Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media Initiative,
delivered as part of the Sligo Town Night Time Economy Pilot by Sligo BID and Sligo County
Council. As part of the overall Night Time Economy Initiative, Sligo has its own dedicated
Night Time Economy Advisor, Edel Doran, who works within Sligo BID.
The Department established the Night-Time Economy Taskforce in the summer of 2020 to
examine the challenges facing the development of a vibrant night-time culture and
economy. The other eight towns/cities involved are: Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny,
Limerick, Longford, Drogheda and Buncrana.
As the campaign rolls out across the nine pilot areas, it is expected to become a model for
other regions to follow, contributing to the growth of a safe and vibrant night-time economy
across the country.
Sligo BID CEO Gail McGibbon says:

“Sligo is such a brilliant place to go out and enjoy a night out, whether that is taking in a
show or a match, eating out at one of our amazing restaurants, enjoying a music or comedy
gig or just going for drink in one of our varied pubs. We want people to get out and about,
have fun and enjoy their nights out.
“The ‘Safe & Sound’ campaign is setting a positive tone while encouraging individuals to be
mindful and respectful of others – from the person showing you to your seat at the theatre
at the start of your night to the bus or taxi driver bringing you home. If we all treat the town
and the people in it with respect, we will create a more enjoyable and respectful
environment for everyone.”
