Well everyone, another Easter in lockdown. Hard to believe we’re still here isn’t it? On a positive note, we have such more behind us than we have ahead. We’re getting to the end of the tunnel however slowly it seems. We will get there though so we’ll hang in there for another while( what’s the alternative says you??!)

We’d like to wish you all a very Happy Easter. Thank you all for your custom during the year, it is always very much appreciated. Good health and happiness to you all.

To celebrate Mother’s Day we are offering all the lovely Mammies out there
a free regular coffee or tea tomorrow. God knows they deserve a little treat after all they do for us.

And don’t worry Mammies we won’t ask you to produce your child or their birth certificate as proof of motherhood, we’ll take your word for it!!

We close at 1 o clock on Sundays so make sure you get in early for your cuppa!,

Just a few of our lovely customers enjoying our new coffee brand!!

We are delighted to let you all know that we are now selling Essence coffee in the shop. We have a wide range of coffee as well as hot chocolate and of course the old reliable tea.

We are also now stocking a new selection of pastries, scones and donuts and don’t we all need a little treat to keep us going these days!!(and won’t a lap or two of the park walk it off you!!)

So if you’re out for for a walk, on your way to work or dropping the kids to school call in and try a cup.

The boss is very proud of it so be sure to tell him how nice it is!!

23/12/2020

Well everyone, we have finally made it to Christmas 2020. Who would have thought when we wished each other a Happy New Year last year we would have had the year we’ve had. Last December we were blissfully unaware that a cocoon could be for anyone else other than a caterpillar. We thought Zoom was what you did when you drove very fast and we thought self isolation was to take yourself off with a coffee and the newspaper for 20 minutes. What an uneducated bunch we were!!
Our entire world has been upended and we have all had to adapt to a new way of living. Things that were unheard of last year have become the new norm but we have all done our best and have gotten on with it . The news over the last few days though has been very negative and everyone is feeling the strain of yet another lockdown which looks to last for a while yet. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s Christmas or maybe it’s just that we’ve been living like this for so long now but it all feels a bit overwhelming at this stage.
We have to take heart though. We’ve come this far and hopefully now that the vaccine is arriving in Ireland there will finally be an end to it all. Yes Christmas will be different but different doesn’t always have to be bad. Obviously there’s a lot of things we can’t do but there is also a lot we can do. On the plus side less people in your house means less cooking and less wash up!! Yes there might less presents but honestly can you even remember what you got last year. Christmas will come and go and all we can do is try to enjoy it as best we can.
By now you are probably sick of us telling you to let us know if there is anything we can do to help you but as we face into another lockdown especially in winter we are going to make the point again. We will deliver any amount of shopping that you need no matter how small so please just ask. Nothing will be too much trouble. You can contact Liam on 086 3872828 or the shop on 6626481. We are closed on Christmas Day only. We feel the boss needs at least one day off where he can be waited on(and if there’s one thing he’s very good at it’s being waited on!) We’re back again on St Stephens Day and every day after that.
We want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your custom throughout the year. We are so grateful for your loyalty and support and hope you know how much we appreciate you all. We will just have to get our heads down now, pick ourselves up and get through the next few weeks as best we can. There is light at the end of the tunnel we just have to get ourselves there.
On behalf of Liam, Annette, Sophie, Anita. Ruth, Amy and Claire we wish you all a very happy and safe Christmas. Take care of yourselves and if each other and will face whatever 2021 brings us together.

‘‘Twas the night before lockdown and all through the house not a creature was stirring not even a mouse...Why were they not stirring? Because they had nowhere to go!!! Numbers were rising again and everyone was being advised to stay at home unless it was an essential journey or for work!!!
And just like that we’re back in lockdown again. Who would have thought that back in the summer we’d be facing all this again? Only this time we don’t have the long evenings or the sunshine or any of the novelty factors that we had back then. Now the weather is miserable, the mornings are dark and everyone’s mood has taken a dip as we realise that this is going to be the way things are going to be for a while.
At this stage we’re all a bit fed up of being told to be kind to each other, to help out when we can ,to be tolerant of others when we’re finding it hard enough just to keep ourselves going but you know we really do need to remember that unless we all pull together and help where we can things will be a lot harder for some people.
We’re assuming that by now you all know if there is anything at all we can do for you all you have to do is ask.Home deliveries are absolutely no problem. It makes no difference to us whether it’s a big shop or just the newspaper, we ll drop it to you. With football over and now the golf club closed again the boss has plenty of spare time on his hands and can be reached on 0863872828 at any time (except probably between 9 and 9.30pm when the news is on and he wants to watch all the days depressing happenings!!) You can also ring the shop on 6626481 between 8am and 7pm and one of the girls will help you
We d like to say a big thank you to all the students who come in every day for their patience and for following the new signs and making things so much easier for us. It was trial and error for a while but we’ve all established a great routine at lunchtime and we hope you feel it’s working for you.
Listen everyone, hang on in there, we’ll get through this again. We’re made of strong stuff and what can we do but keep going. Please mind yourselves and stay safe- better days are coming.

Hello all! Just to let you know that the bIg lotto win has been collected. Huge congratulations to the winner and happy spending🎊🎉🎊🎉

17/05/2020

Hello everyone on this unusually grey evening!! We just want to let you know that The National Lottery HQ have been in touch to inform us that the owner of the winning ticket for nearly €97k still hasn’t come forward to claim their prize. The ticket was purchased in our shop on Saturday 14 March. Because of all the upheaval which has happened in our lives since then, the ticket may have been misplaced so make sure you check your pockets, handbags, wallets, car glove compartments or anywhere else you normally leave your ticket. You might even have to get St Anthony on the job!! This is such a large amount to win so we really want the owner to be found.

On a different note, for those of you who haven’t seen the Roscommon Gaels page a total of just over €10k was raised for Pieta House in their 5km challenge. Of that total nearly €2500k was given in to the buckets in the shop so a huge thank you to everyone who who so generously donated so such a good cause. It is definitely something we can look back on with pride during this time of our lives.

Finally, anther good news story-A huge congratulations to all the boys and girls of second class in St Comans Woods primary school who to date have raised over €8000 for the Irish Cancer Society. Yesterday was supposed to be their Communion Day but because it was cancelled, they instead walked the total distance of a marathon between them!! Some of them wore their communion outfits and looked so gorgeous and handsome and we hope that it won’t be too long before you can wear them again for your big day!! So well done to you all and of course to your Mammies and Daddies who walked with you!! It’s a real feel good story and another example of the goodness that has shone out over these past few months.

So that’s it folks, we head into a new week with a feeling of optimism that maybe we can start to get back to normal. It is going to take a while yet but at least we have some hope for the future. Take care of yourselves and remember to keep washing those hands and maintain your social distance!!

08/05/2020

Ok everyone here’s a question for you-can you remember what you were feeling when you were at the lowest point of your life? Despair, hopelessness, isolation, darkness? All terrible feelings which none of us want to experience.Thankfully they lifted and life returned to normal again. But just suppose those feelings didn’t lift, that day after day, week after week those feelings persisted until that’s all your life was- nothing but darkness.

This is the awful reality that some people have to live with constantly. It could be someone in your family, it could be a friend, it could be that person you meet on the street who is always so friendly but inside is empty. It could be any of us.

But there is help out there and this is why tonight we are giving one last big push for the Roscommon Gaels fundraiser for Pieta House. Thank you to everyone who has so generously donated so far but to the rest of you please dig deep and make a contribution. Every little bit will help.

By the time you have your glass filled and switched between The Late Late and Graham Norton and back again(let’s face it, there’s not much on either of them these nights!!) or pressed ‘skip intro’ on Netflix you’ll have your card number put in on the GoFund me page and pressed donate-it’s as easy as that.

For those of you who prefer to make a cash donation, dust down those wallets and set the moths free, it’s been a while since you’ve spent money on anything other than groceries(when did you even have to get petrol last?) so there’s bound to be a note or two in there. You can drop it into the shop tomorrow at some stage. We will even put some sealed buckets outside so you won’t have to come in so don’t be using the ‘social distancing’ as an excuse!!

We’ve had a few enquiries from the cocooners and we would only be too delighted to collect your donation from your house.

As well raising much needed funds for Pieta House it is also a chance for us to come together(all be it at a distance) and reconnect with each other. Please make sure you post your photos after you do your 5km on the Roscommon Gaels pages. For those less energetic of you(there’s no shame in that) we are asking that you would get up at 5.30am to greet the dawn. Please post those photos as well and for the love of God do not be worrying about what you look like. It will the crack of dawn and none of us have seen a hairdresser for nearly two months so how well great are any of us going to be?!

Finally, for those of you who really don’t want to post a picture we are asking you to send a little sunshine emoji to our page here. Keep them coming throughout the day and we will send you some love back!!

Please everyone let’s make this a great success and something we can be all proud to look back on during our time in lockdown. Let’s stand in solidarity with all the people whose lives have been affected by the awfulness that is su***de and let’s make the sun shine brightly over Roscommon tomorrow.🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

04/05/2020

Hello all on day How on Earth is it May already of lockdown!! At this stage we’ve walked the dog, walked the kids and walked that all important 2km so many times that we could do it in our sleep. We’ve painted walls, painted fences painted our nails. We’ve cut the grass and cut our hair(let’s not dwell on that for too long!). We’ve binged on food,on drink and on Netflix. We’ve upcycled, recycled and just plain cycled. We’ve tried our best to homeschool(does anyone out there know exactly what a cuboid pyramid is??). We’ve baked, sewn and drawn. We’ve sent and received so many WhatsApps that we’re not even sure what groups we’re in anymore.
We have also slowed the pace of life down. We’ve re-connected with family and friends in a way we never would have if our lives hadn’t changed so much. We are slowly relearning to appreciate what we have and who we have in our lives. We have made some good memories during this time and as long as we stay safe we may even look back with a sense of nostalgia.
Obviously we can’t sustain this lifestyle forever and we need to get back to reality. We hopefully have jobs to return to, we have bills to pay appointments to keep. We look forward to seeing all our friends and families again and we hope to get back to normal over the coming weeks. There is light at the end of the tunnel for us and come the 18th May hopefully we can ease our way back to living our lives again.
Unfortunately this has not been a pleasant time for everyone. For some of us there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Not just during this time but during life in general. For some of us no matter how brightly the sun shines we are filled with a sense of never ending darkness. We have no sense of hope, no sense of peace and nowhere to turn to.
This is why we are asking you to please, please support the Roscommon Gaels 5km challenge to raise much needed funds for Pieta House. This challenge will take place on Saturday 9 May which is when the annual Darkness into Light walk was to be held. You can run, walk or cycle the 5km either individually or as a family. Maybe even bring the poor dog along!! You don’t even have to do the 5km to donate money. Let’s face it, we’re not all cut out to be athletes. It’s an achievement for some of us to make it to the top of the stairs!! All the details are on the Roscommon Gaels page and you can make a donation through the Pieta House GoFund me page there.
If anyone would prefer to make a cash donation you can leave it into Liam in the shop. We will have a container outside the shop all day Saturday so you won’t even have to go in. We can’t make it any easier than that for you!!
This is a very hard time for charities, they have lost so much of their revenue so please give what you can to this cause. It doesn’t have to much. If you think of all the online shopping you’ve done over the past few weeks(go on admit it, we won’t tell anyone!,) you can get the card out once more and make a donation.
Imagine in a few months when we’re looking back at this time and we’re admiring our tidy garden or
our freshly painted sitting room that we could also say we contributed in some small way towards saving someone’s life- now that would be an achievement to be proud of.
In the meantime stay safe, be kind to yourself and to each other and enjoy the warmth of the sun 🌞🌞🌞🌞

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ALERT⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
We in McNeills would like to issue a cautionary statement on the use of hair clippers at home.During these strange and unprecedented times we are all slightly removed from reality. We may think that we are better at doing things than we actually are.Doing our own hair is one of these things!!We might all fancy ourselves as amateur barbers but take it from us we’re not.
How hard can it be we wonder,it looks so easy we think and we ve had it done so many times sure we’ll give it a go! There is a reason that barbers have had training before they cut people’s hair and that reason is that it will be done properly.
Buying a hair clippers, sticking on a random attachment and going hell for leather on the hair without reading the instructions or watching a YouTube tutorial is NOT the thing to do!!!
So please, the next time you look in the mirror and think how badly you need a haircut just stick a bit of extra gel on to flatten that tuft, comb your fringe to the side or if thing’s really are that bad wear a hat. Lockdown won’t last forever and the professionals will be back soon.
Obviously we’re not talking from experience here but let’s just say someone quite close to us will not see the light of day without a hat for some time yet!!!🙈🙈🙈
safe kind it to the professionals 💇‍♂️💇‍♂️💇‍♂️
