Coming back to work after maternity leave, I couldn’t have asked for a more exciting project than working on a General Election campaign!

I’m thrilled to share that over the past four weeks or so I've been working with Fine Gael Candidate, Keira Keogh. Designing a series of newspaper ads, social media creatives and much more, this project was both rewarding and creatively fulfilling for me and I’m proud to share here some of the work I delivered.

A heartfelt thank you to Keira for trusting me with such an important part of her campaign - it’s been an honour to contribute to this journey.

Before this, I have worked with Keira for over a decade in JCI, and her dedication, enthusiasm, and care for others have always stood out. She has inspired countless members by building their confidence, and teaching them many skills like public speaking and debating. Her ability to resolve conflicts and foster harmony within teams is remarkable, and her commitment to creating positive change is unmatched.

Keira is someone who always shows up. She consistently puts people first and supports others at every opportunity. Her hard work and genuine care make her an exceptional leader, and I have no doubt she will bring the same energy, dedication, and compassion to representing Mayo in Dáil Éireann.

For anyone who is based in Mayo, I wholeheartedly encourage you to give Keira your Number 1 and I have no doubt that if elected she will work tirelessly on the behalf of the people of Mayo.

Also, whoever you are backing, just don't forget to go out and vote, as your voice matters and every vote counts!

Now that election day is here, it's time for me to find my next exciting project so be sure to have me as your Number 1 when you need help with your visual marketing.

As a small business owner it’s easy to focus on the daily struggles: cash flow; exposure; attracting a new audience; retaining your current customer; managing admin, customer service, marketing, & all areas of the business; etc.

But when the struggles start to rise to the top, it’s important to remember why you went into business in the first place.

Was it for
🟣 Work/life balance?
🟣 Financial freedom?
🟣 To help others?
🟣 Showcase your expertise?
🟣 Be a leader in your field?
🟣 Choose who you work with?

Going back to your WHY, looking at where you started and where you are now. Focus on the positives! Then look at the areas where you can improve your personal growth, and in turn grow your business.

You could consider
➡️ Outsourcing areas which are taking up too much of your time, such as graphic design
➡️ Upskilling in an area by taking a course
➡️ Working 1-1 with a consultant who can help you in an area your weak in, for example marketing strategy, pricing, public speaking
➡️ Collaborating with others in your industry who have different strengths
➡️ Spending more time networking (in person or online)

I’ve received numerous knock-backs since starting in business, but I take each one as a learning, and I continue every day to try develop my skills and collaborate with others, so that way I can be better for my business & the clients I work with.

As you begin a new week, instead of becoming consumed with the struggles of a small business owner, remember
“When you focus on the good, the good gets better.” That’s my note to myself this Monday.

Have a great week!

So many people ask me 'Why Canva?'. With so many apps and editing platforms out there, as well as an increase in AI tools, it can be overwhelming to decide what works best for you and your business.

I first joined Canva around 2015 and have never looked back. Having done courses in Photoshop and trying other image editing tools, nothing was as user friendly as Canva, and to this day it's still not complicated for people with no graphic design background.

An easy to use interface where you can drag and drop elements to create custom designs, or avail of the thousands of templates available, whether for social media, flyers, presentations, videos, infographics, the list goes on and on. You don't need experience, nor do you need to be the most creative of people, you can easily get started. And Canva offers useful tutorials and access to their design school. The best part, you can use Canva for free and create so many amazing visuals for your business. There is a pro subscription too which gives you even more time saving options, and it's very cost effective for any business owner.

Overall, I've never looked back from choosing Canva and I use it daily, not only for my own business, but also helping clients with it, and utilising the platform with numerous volunteer groups I'm associated with.

So, if you are still wondering 'Why Canva?', that's just a brief reason why, without even going into some of my favourite tools within the platform that have saved me so much time and money over the years.

So if you've not already, why not give it a try!

5 Tips for the Small Business Owner Having Trouble using Canva Effectively

This applies whether using a free or paid version of Canva.

1. Start with a ready made template: Canva has an amazing range of templates available for all different types of designs, such as social media posts, presentations, videos, business cards, flyers, and more. Choose a template that works for your business and start customising it with your branding and content.

2. Learn the basics: Canva has a really user-friendly interface, but naturally when starting out it can still take a little getting used to. Take some time to learn the basic tools, such as how to add text, images & videos, how to change the font & color to your brand, and how to resize various elements. Start with the basics and build from there!

3. Use the Search Function: Whether using the free or paid version of Canva, you will find a huge library of images, graphics, videos and illustrations that you can use in your designs. If you're struggling to find the right image or icon, using the search function will narrow down your options so you can find something relevant.

4. Try Different Layouts: Canva gives you the opportunity to experiment with various layouts and designs until you are happy with one that works best for your business. Play around with different layouts, font combinations, and color schemes to see what you like to work with and what suits your brand.

5. Use Canva's Resources: While you may not be a graphic designer, the beauty of Canva is that you can take advantage of their wide range of resources which will help you create professional looking designs. Choose from their design school, tutorials, informative blog, and events. Canva shares these resources so their users, small business owners like you, can improve your design skills and create better designs for your brand.

Remember, start with the basics and build from there. Canva has been developed to be user friendly and was created with “non-designers” in mind. It's the perfect tool for you to use in your business.

If you're a small business owner looking to save time and money by using Canva more efficiently, then don't hesitate to reach out and see how I can help you.
