Example Of John Lennon’s Immeasurable Influence :

“From the first moment I was asked to Produce Nirvana’s now landmark album ‘Nevermind’ in the year of 1991, my goal was to get the best sound possible from the band onto tape. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, especially with singer/guitar player Kurt Cobain, who just wanted a bare bones production, with no overdubs, or double tracking on his voice.”

“Once recording began, I knew right away that we needed to double track Kurt’s vocals to get the sound to bring out the best in the songs. I tried everything possible to get him to do it, and he refused. I was beyond frustrated myself because I was at the end of my rope and running out of our studio budget.”

“Then all of a sudden a couple of days later I was listening to the song ‘Nowhere Man’ by The Beatles on the radio. From talking to Kurt Cobain in the studio I had learned that he was not only a huge fan of The Beatles, but he was especially in awe of John Lennon. That day I went to the studio again, and asked him to double track his vocals on some songs. This time though I mentioned that John Lennon double tracked his vocals on many of his most famous songs.”

“Turns out that’s all Kurt needed to hear. After that he double tracked all the vocals I requested of him with no hesitation at all. Just by mentioning that John Lennon had done the exact same thing made Kurt more than eager to do it himself.”

They were top of the charts for 4 consecutive weeks back in 1995!

It was an absolute pleasure to do sound for John Spillane and Julie Martin at the weekend! 🙂

An absolute gent and excellent performer. An artist, poet, story teller and singer songwriter. I didn't realise that Christy Moore has covered 5 of his songs over the years! Thanks for the invitation of pints afterwards John. It was late by the time I had everything packed up and didn't make it unfortunately. Hope you enjoyed Keane's Bar and Baile Uí Bheoláin.
Julie played a lovely selection of songs before John. Keep an eye out for her! A very talented up-and-coming artist! 😁
