🙋🏻‍♀️I am regularly asked how to make babies or toddlers sleep better.

❤️That's why I dedicate this post to all the mums and dads with the same question.

🙈 Sleep does not only depend on being tired and having a place to sleep.

😴Sleep is a process that depends on many factors to be successful, such as the time we offer sleep, exposure to light, physical activity, a good diet, regularity in schedules, etcetera.

🙏🏼I hope this information is of help to you. Let me know how you are getting on with your baby's sleep after putting any of these tips into practice.

😳I must say that this is the transition I was most afraid of as I thought it would be very difficult for my son to go from two naps to just one in the middle of the day.

🙈🙋🏻‍♀️I procrastinated a lot during the transition until it was no longer possible to keep him in two naps because bedtime was already getting close to 8:30pm and the recommended bedtime until he was 6 years old would always be between 7 and 8pm.

🗓It took my son 2 days to make this transition, I found it was much easier than I thought it would be.

🤔The first day he only napped for 30 minutes and didn't reconnect with the next sleep cycle so I put him to bed earlier that day.

🙌🏻The next day the same thing happened but I went into the room without turning on the lights and told him that his nap wasn't over yet and that he had to sleep and what do you think?

🥳🥳🤝👌🙌🏻He slept for another 1.5 hours!!!!
Even I couldn't believe it!🙋🏻‍♀️

⌚️These naps can happen between 12 and 1pm but in my experience between 12:30 and 1pm are more recommended.

🤝Pass this information on to any parents you think might need it and save it for the future.

🤣👌And once the first year is over, as parents we think that we have it all under control and that we still have one more year to experience what they say about the terrible twos.

🙈😆In reality the fun starts even earlier!

😜And that's why I made this post to prepare you with knowledge when you reach this stage with your children.

💪🏼The key will always be ✅CONSISTENCY in everything:
✅CONSISTENCY in limits
✅CONSISTENCY in response
✅CONSISTENCY in the steps they follow in the soothing bedtime routine.
✅CONSISTENCY in schedules, especially bedtimes (although at this stage they are starting to migrate from two to one nap so you need to be very aware of any changes in your child's sleep pattern).

😉I suggest you check out the reel I have on bedtime battles where I give you concrete ideas on what to do in these cases.

✍️I'm working on a post about the famous one-nap transition so you know exactly what to do :)

🤝If you live in any of the countries that will soon be changing the time, this post is for you!

☺️Today I want to give you three different ways in which you can help your baby to make the upcoming time change go unnoticed.

😉❤️Here are three simple tips on how to do it.

⏱I always choose to do Tip 1 with my son as I feel that the more gradual the change the less he notices it.

✍️Something that helps me a lot when I'm making a gradual schedule change is to write down the routine every three days so I feel more organised.

😘I hope you find them useful

🤝I often talk to parents who try to follow their children's sleep signals to offer them a nap and it turns out that when they see them yawning or very tired, that's when they put them to sleep.

🥱Remember that regular yawning, sulking or closing their eyes while playing is already a late sign of overtiredness.

😴It is important to be guided by their sleep signals but also by their age-appropriate sleep windows and to have regularity in the time naps are offered.

😣If our child takes a nap too late, he/she will most likely finish it late and will not arrive with enough sleep pressure at the right time to sleep at night.

🕰Remember that from 4 to 5 months of age, the best time for babies to go to sleep at night is between 7 and 8 pm.

👁So if your baby finishes his nap too close to his age-appropriate bedtime, he will probably find it harder to sleep and will gradually develop a negative association with his sleep space as he is not yet ready to fall asleep.

😉I suggest you check the post I have on sleep signals and sleep windows to be able to establish little by little the schedules in which your baby should take his naps

❤️to help you even more with this today I leave you this post to guide you of the suggested schedules in which your child should wake up as late as possible from his last nap and not affect the bedtime at night.

👉🏼Every day I receive various questions related to napping in newborns.
☑️The duration
☑️The quantity
☑️The conditions
☑️Independent sleeping

❤️So I have lovingly prepared this carousel for you, explaining what many parents of newborn fathers expecting their first baby want to know.

😴I insist a lot on the importance of rest during the day so that you can rest better at night.

🍼Even so, remember that newborns should be fed on demand.

❤️🍼For in this period we need to take care of their basic needs of life which are feeding, security and survival.

💔Every time my baby gets sick it breaks my heart and I think all moms feel the same way.

😫We don't want to see them in pain or ill.

🥳😇We would like our children to never get sick but the reality is that it is even beneficial for them to get sick to boost their immune system.

🤧😷When they get sick their sleep is affected and they may have more nighttime awakenings and ironically need more sleep to recover sooner.

👉🏼My advice is to let them sleep as long as they need to during the day to have a better night's sleep.

💤There is no rule here about waking him after 2 or 3 hours, the more sleep your baby gets the better for his immune system.

🩺❤️It is proven that people who have positive sleep habits recover more easily than people who have a sleep debt or have accumulated overtiredness throughout their lives,

🤩😴Sleep is one of the pillars of health and I would say one of the most important.

🤝I want to help you understand why your baby is having such a hard time sleeping, even though he is so tired.

😫Bedtime becomes more difficult, more frustrating, longer and longer and when your baby finally gets to sleep, 😭he wakes up crying soon after and the vicious circle of overtiredness begins again.

😊I tried to be as concise and clear as possible to help you understand how the tiredness builds up and give you some tips to try to reverse this frustrating cycle.🙃😫😖

👇🏼Let me know if you have noticed your baby getting overtired and what you have done.

🎂We have reached the stage where we celebrate our baby's first birthday and I would even say that we should celebrate our first year as mums and dads too!

❤️💐👌🥳It hasn't been an easy job so we have to value all our efforts in this first year of life.

🐣🐥Babies are always showing us what they are capable of especially as they move more and more

🚶🚶‍♀️some start walking as early as 9 months, others at the age of one year and others, like my son, much later and this is totally normal and expected.

🧠The brain is so busy focusing on each of the new skills that of course sleep will not be a priority for a couple of days or a couple of weeks so a regression of sleep is expected at around 12 months.

👌😴As I always say, regressions represent progressions in our babies' development so we have nothing to worry about.

😴😴😴😴😴😴Just focus on getting the babies as much rest as possible, be patient and consistent with routines and avoid introducing external sleep aids that were not there before, such as new feedings of milk at night.

😇Habits and routines should be developed in children from an early age

🧷They give them a lot of security as there are many new things they discover while observing and exploring and, sometimes, this can create insecurity and awaken some fear in them.

😌Knowing what comes next always brings them peace and tranquillity

✅✅✅repeating the same activities in the same order every day helps the child to assimilate an internal scheme that makes their world a predictable and, therefore, safe place.

🤟🏼Over time this security and organisation will help them develop a concept of responsibility and stability.

😁💕Having routines and habits creates a more positive family environment because if the child has internalised that an activity has been established such as certain schedules for sleeping, eating, and playing, you will probably, on more than one occasion, avoid an unnecessary power struggle as they will see it as something normal and not as an order from you.

🙂Let me know if you have a routine at home and tell me how it goes :)

😫Nowadays we are so used to having everything in the INSTANT that we want it.

🍔If we are hungry we click on an app and we have our food ready in less than 1 hour.

⏰If we need anything, no matter how simple it is, we find it online, we click on it and sometimes we have it in the same day.

🤭We live in an era where we get bored quickly because we have instant entertainment.

😒We used to have to wait a whole week to watch the next episode of a series, now we spend whole days watching entire series.

😡This dynamic that we currently live in where we have everything in seconds has made us lose our capacity to wait and the ability to be patient.

👩‍👦As a mother myself, I have experienced this with my son.

🚶🏾‍♂️I was worried because I saw that all the children of a similar age to him walked at one year of age or before and I saw that weeks went by and he didn't take those "first steps". "When is he going to walk? he is supposed to walk, I want him to walk".

👏🏼He finally took those first steps when he was about to turn 18 months old, which is normal and expected.

😣We get frustrated more easily now and tend to tolerate less.

🤩Every day I reflect on what my son is teaching me, without a doubt being PATIENT in every area of life is one of them.

🥰Starting with being patient with my son's and my own development.

😇I want to know if you are also learning this lesson or any other lesson from your children... tell me about it.

💪🏼Between 8-9 months there is an important development in skills such as crawling, crawling or even being able to stand holding on to something.

🧠Babies' brains are so busy assimilating these new skills that consolidating sleep is not the priority now.

🤨🌚Many babies decide to practice their new skills in their sleep, i.e. they try to crawl, stand up, etc.

🙈They are also going through their first wave of separation anxiety and all this can affect sleep.

🦷In addition to this, teething also starts during this period and this can make nights a little more difficult.

🤷🏻‍♀️What can you do?

⏰Adjust bedtime, so that you don't arrive overtired at bedtime.

🤸‍♀️Practice with your baby the new skills acquired during the day.

🚫Avoid introducing new sleeping habits such as new night time feedings

🥳❤️In my opinion, this is a fascinating stage because your newborn baby is already more awake and interacts more with you!

😀Babies become more and more fun and each of their achievements are celebrated with a lot of happiness so enjoy this stage very much!

👇🏼Tell me how you are doing with your baby during this period?

😭My son started to suffer from separation anxiety from the time he was 1 year old, 🙈the obsession that daddy or I should be there by his side was too much.

😫As a parent you feel like you can't leave for a second and you try to explain in many ways that you are there and that you won't leave but it's very difficult for babies to understand the concept of how soon you will be back.

😎🤪😙Something that has helped us a lot when separation anxiety comes and goes is to play peek a boo and be very clear about where we are going and why.

⏱When he was one year old he lasted about three weeks, recently when he turned 18 months he lasted a couple of days and then he was walking around the house again playing with his toys.

👀🙋🏻‍♀️Now it was me who wanted to see where he was and what he was doing hahaha.

🥰If your baby or child is going through this stage, believe me I understand you as a mother, because that anguish is out of your control and no matter how much you want to explain to them that you will not disappear from their life, children do not understand it.

👌Remember that it is a positive sign that your child is growing and developing optimally and the most important thing of all is that it is normal and temporary :)

👉🏼Let me know how you are doing at this stage ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

🙌🏻Dear parents, it is at this stage that we can begin to see "the light at the end of the tunnel" as erratic as sleep can be in the early months.

⏰Now, babies' internal clocks have kicked in and can differentiate between day and night and little by little more predictable sleep patterns will be established (🙈avoid thinking about the 4 month regression now and let's focus on what's at the end of the tunnel hahaha).

👍During this time, babies need approximately 14 hours of sleep per day.

🤟🏼Both 4-month-olds and 5-month-olds sleep between four and five hours during the day, divided into three naps.

💪🏼I suggest you practice every day to put him sleepy but awake in his crib at bedtime and let your baby finish falling asleep independently.

🌞You can start by practicing once every 24 hours during one of his naps. I suggest you do it at the first nap time as they still have melatonin reserves from the night and this regularly makes it less difficult for them.

🤝🧘‍♀️If after trying it your child is not able to fall asleep on their own, don't stress or worry, try again the next day.

👏🏼💪🏼Remember that any new skill takes practice to consolidate.

👇🏼Feel free to tag any mom or dad who is at this stage.

or 🗣 let me know how your baby is doing.

🤝😴Today I would like to present you this first carousel about the series "What to expect from the dream"

🗣Little is said about intrauterine sleep and today I wanted to tell you about this fascinating stage😀👇🏼

🤰Before birth, the foetus spends most of its time in a REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep-like state.

🧠Their tiny brains are developing and when they dream they can move and kick as their brains are still developing.

🦿However, the muscles of an adult in this phase of sleep remain naturally and temporarily paralysed to prevent them from acting out our dreams.

At around 23 weeks of pregnancy, babies can already experience non-REM and REM sleep.

😴In a 24-hour day they can have six hours of NREM and six hours of REM and 12 hours where both phases of sleep come and go during this period.

🥱From the third trimester onwards they start to wake up a little, adding up to 2-3 hours a day. The rest of the time is sleep, much of which is REM.

😇2 weeks before birth the baby will have almost 9 hours of REM sleep a day.

😴😴😴1 week before the baby will have 12 hours of REM sleep a day.
This is the most REM sleep he will have in a day in his lifetime.

🧠🧠🧠Imagine that your brain is so active and changing so much that you need this much REM sleep to grow the brain connections.

🙋🏻‍♀️Adult brains are already developed, and we get 20-25% REM sleep per night, so in an 8 hour sleep maybe 2 hours.

When & why?
3️⃣From the age of 3 years old

👣children have more body awareness, which prevents them from falling asleep.

🧠Before this age they do not have the cognitive maturity to be receptive to explaining change and understanding the rule of staying in bed all night. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🦶🏻Before the age of 3 years, their self-control of impulses is less and they find it more attractive to experience the new freedom. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
😴After the age of 3, it is less dangerous for them to stand up during the night and they already have the motor skills that help them avoid accidents.⠀

👎Some of the wrong reasons for making this transition are

😇The arrival of a sibling causes the transition to be made early and in a hurry.

🧗‍♂️He already knows how to climb in the cot

🤷🏻‍♀️To see if he "sleeps better".

🧍🏻Parents are excited to see their children in their own "big boy" bed.

🤟🏼Avoid telling your child that he is a "big boy" because he is not really a "big boy" yet.

😇He is a "little big boy" and he will be little for some things and big for others.

🙈Sometimes, by telling them that they are big, they feel the need to remind us that they are not big yet.... even rejecting situations that they probably ARE ready for!

👌This change should be made when our children are ready

⏱most of the time children express this desire to move to a bed, so please avoid rushing them through this big change.

🙏🏼Usually this change takes place between 3.5-4 years of age, my advice is for your child to sleep in their cot for as long as possible.

😌You will find that the transition will be more enjoyable and friendly for everyone.

👌Today I want to give you the 4 essential elements that should not be missing at bedtime:

🖤Darkness: Melatonin is the hormone that induces sleep and is produced when the ocular nerve senses total darkness.

😇From 2 to 2.5 months of age, offer your baby naps in complete darkness.

⚪️White noise: Soft noise helps to optimise the sleep environment as it mimics the conditions of the womb and muffles external sounds.

🌡Temperature: We sleep best in a cool environment, so make sure the temperature of the room where your baby sleeps is between 20-22 C and 24-25C in warmer climates.

🧷Sleeping bag: For safety reasons, it is recommended to avoid using sheets or blankets to cover babies as they are a great risk of suffocation when they are small.

🥶I’m addition, babies move all the time during sleep and this is normal and expected. This is normal and expected. As they do this they uncover and often wake up feeling cold.

👍I want to make it easier for you to know and guide you about the sleep needs according to your baby's age range.

🤖Remember that human beings are not robots or perfect little boxes, so please take these numbers as a guide and not as a bible.

🙃If you feel that your baby is sleeping much less than these ranges, he/she may be accumulating a sleep debt, you may notice overtiredness, lack of appetite and difficulty sleeping.

💆🏻‍♀️If this is your case, I will be happy to help you attend to your baby's sleep needs to improve the quantity and quality of his rest.

🙏🏼I confess that I prayed a lot to the universe that the moment of the first extended sleep would come.

❤️The first few days feeding your baby every 2 hours is expected.

🥵but then weeks and weeks go by and I was already very exhausted.

🧐I kept asking myself, at what point will my baby sleep a little longer at night, even if it's only an hour longer, I said.

😍That beautiful moment came! just when he turned 6 weeks old!

🤝I'll explain briefly why

👉🏼At around 6 weeks of age, babies' body temperature starts to drop at bedtime so they extend their sleep period for a while.

😴😴This allows them to fall asleep better and extend their sleep period by 3-5 hours every 24 hours.

🌚It is important that this lengthening happens at night

🌝so it is important to wake them up after 2 hours of sleep during the day so that they can do this lengthening at night and everyone can rest at this time.
