Hello world! For the past couple of months I have been roaming around the parish with a microphone, gathering the sounds and stories of Kildimo-Pallaskenry. I have also been composing some music inspired by this place and the people who live in it. I have neatly packaged all of these things into an hour-ish of splendid audio for your convenience!
I will be broadcasting the work this weekend on Ringmoylan Pier.
Come along any time from 11.30 to 6pm. You will be able to tune in and hear the work on your car radio, a pocket radio, or a transistor radio.
This project is part of my PhD at the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance, UL, and is supported by the Irish Research Council and HearSay International Audio Arts Festival.

This weekend 29-30 May Kilfinane, Co. Limerick will be humming with the sounds of HearSay Encounters. (See www.hearsayfestival.ie)
HearSay Encounters is a self-discover trail of giant sonic sculptures, soundworks, art, impromptu music, and deep listening. Its a chance to explore Kilfinane with ears wide open, to remind ourselves of life's possibilities.
All free, all in public spaces, and in the open air! See you there!
This weekend 29-30 May from 10am-7pm, Kilfinane will be humming with the sounds of HearSay Encounters.
HearSay Encounters is a self-discover trail of playful sonic sculptures, soundworks, art, impromptu music, and deep listening. Its a chance to explore Kilfinane with ears wide open, to remind ourselves of life's possibilities.
All free and all in public spaces
Among the things to watch out for in this special twist on the HearSay Audio Arts Festival:
- An giant gramophone sparks the imagination and memory playing commentary from matches, festivals of yesterday and Kilfinane choirs.
- A huge Elk strides the square frozen - it's bellow the fractured sounds of Kilfinane collective life
- Sonic Benches play audio Haikus
- the sounds of the Amazon meld with Kilfinanes birdsong,
- films screen in windows,
- craft groups showcase their work accompanied by a pre-pandemic radio feature,
- self-guided walks discover hidden corners with sonic surprises!
Though nearly everything is on the streets, there are two very special online things too.
Arrange to meet friends from all around the world or just up the road in Virtual Kilfinane (2 pubs and a fountain) at bit.ly/VirtualKilfinane - its a little like a zoom call but in a pub and much more relaxed (open 24 hours)
And on Saturday 29th at 8pm there will be a livestream of "Soundings: An Audio Village" a 60-minute film documenting HearSay behind the scenes and on Kilfinane’s streets the tidy towns preparing, all the local volunteers, events in scoil pol, homestays and lots of familiar faces

In 2017, a film crew drawn from local film-makers and secondary school students documented the HearSay Festival – the preparations on the streets of Kilfinane and in transforming the venues, the homestays , the travelling from all over the world to Kilfinane, the creative residencies (including collaboration in a hair salon with local actors , Audio Potluck in a Kitchen, workshops in school, the recording of a song, and the beautiful madness of the festival itself.

#HearSay21 the 5th edition of a truly international festival inspiring Creative Audio takes over the mountain village of Kilfinane, Ireland 22nd-25th April 2021 -- #HearSay19 hosted 129 unique events in 18 Village venues with participants from 38 Countries.
