In 2011, I was diagnosed with clinical depression and spent several years on medication, I reached a stage where I was again able to go about my daily tasks in life and "function" effectively. However, I felt far from well, happy and fulfilled in my life. Around this time, I read an article in a magazine that described a way of being as "languishing", a place where you are not mentally unwell, but
you are not really enjoying or getting the most out of life, often just going through the motions. Alongside this I discovered the concept of "flourishing", whereby you are living a life, not necessarily feeling joyously happy all of the time but feeling fulfilled, interested, engaged and your life has a feeling of flow about it. It was this experience and discovery that took me on my journey to completing a Master's in Positive Psychology and Coaching, not only to be able to improve my own life and work towards more flourishing, but to be able to help others to also find their way to a more flourishing life. Like everything it is a journey and a continous process, but the combined theories and practice of positive psychology and coaching are brilliant tools in supporting mental wellbeing and a flourishing life.
