was founded in Dundalk in 1859. William Tempest of Rostrevor, whose descendants still own the firm, established the company with some second hand type and one small press. From this humble beginning grew a firm that soon became a byword for printing of the highest quality. Harry Tempest, son of William, who took over the running of the firm early in the 20th century, was a wise and far seeing busi

nessman. Greatly interested in his hometown and county, he was the founder member of the County Louth Archaeology Society, an honorary member of the Royal Irish Academy and a noted antiquarian and local historian. He was responsible for printing the Co. Louth Archaeological Journal, a publication the firm continues to produce to this day. Under his stewardship Dundalgan Press acquired a reputation as a book printer par excellence. Some of the books we print today are for institutions which originally dealt with Harry tempest. Because we have kept to the highest standards established by Harry, a Dundalgan Press book has long been acknowledged as a product of beauty and perfection. We produce a wide range of printing services to the educational sector. Over many years University Departments and Learned Societies have entrusted their books, in Irish and English, to us. We print for the Royal Irish Academy, Department of Irish Folklore UCD, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, Economic & Social Research Institute, An Clochomhar Teo., and the Ulster Historical Foundation. At the second level sector we produce school & college annuals for Franciscan College Gormanstown, Castleblayney College, The Marist, De La Salle and Dun Lughaidh colleges in Dundalk. We can also print booklets, programmes, pads and general school office stationery. With the increased interest in local history many more books on this subject are being published. We have printed histories of the golf clubs in Greenore and Dundalk, The diaries of Henry McClintock, Louth Men in the First World War, pictorial histories of Ardee, Blackrock and Knockbridge and school histories of Blackrock and Shelagh.
