Jacinta concludes a week of discovery in Inspiring Tunisia
Our Travelbiz award winning reporter Jacinta McGlynn brings you on a memorable and inspiring journey.
TUI Irelandhttps://travelbiz.ie/discoveringtunisiawithtravelbiz/
A mausoleum is an unusual place to stop in Tunisia. However, when itβs a beautiful piece of architecture and revering the very first President, then itβs worth a visit. Until 1957, Tunisia was a Kingdom and under French influence, then Habib Bourguiba was elected President and ruled until 1987. He introduced strict secularism, modernity in cultural matters and brought economic development. This independence from France saw a country move into the modern world and, today, Tunisia is no longer backward nor ultra conservative, but a place where women have rights and free choice. Many still choose to wear the hajib, but importantly, itβs observed as a personal choice. In the Mausoleum, Bourguibaβs tomb is encrusted in gold with intricate marble fretwork and is raised on a plinth surrounded by stunning tiled arches and a spectacular ceiling. Itβs a resting place worthy of a beloved leader.

Don Scheffler :) (Travelbiz & Travelfinders) teed it up with Team Ireland at the World Travel Centre Fareteam International Golf Classic 2025 β and what a day it was!
Hosted by the incredible Dave Conlon, Colette Brennan, and Dave OβGrady (World Travel Centre & Fareteam), this yearβs event marked Round 3 of the much-anticipated WTC Fareteam Challenge Trophy.
π The stunning Slieve Russell Hotel & Golf Resort in Co. Cavan set the stage β a 300-acre gem owned by Cavan-native Tony Brady, boasting one of the finest PGA National courses around. A true test for both teams!
Despite a rainy tee-off, the skies cleared to reveal an afternoon of sunshine, laughs, and unforgettable moments. One of those? A spectacular eagle chip-in on the 18th by the talented Cara Morgan (Terra Travel) β a proud Murphy family legacy in action! π
π Congratulations to Team Northern Ireland, who claimed a well-earned victory and now lead the series 2-1. Meanwhile, Team ROI celebrated an incredible Singles Win by Niall McDonnell (MD, Killiney Travel) with a brilliant 34 points.
The day wrapped up with pre-dinner drinks, a top-class gala dinner, and the kind of camaraderie that defines our travel community. A heartfelt thank you to Aidan, Dave, Colette, and David for your exceptional hospitality and for making this event one of the most special in our industry.
Hereβs to 2026 β and to bringing the trophy home! ππ

CLIA Thanks Irish Trade Partners highlighting Irish cruise passengers getting younger as holidays at sea continue to thrive.
Andy Hammer (UK & Ireland MD) and David Sanders (PR Manager) hosted a reception for CLIA - Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) in Lennanβs Yard on Dawson Street attended by a mix of trade, cruise line representatives and travel media, with Declan Mescall (Features Editor) flying the flag for Travelbiz. The event was held to go through the 2024 Irish cruise passenger numbers and trends.
Cruise Lines International Association's (CLIA) latest annual passenger study has revealed that Irish cruisers are getting younger, with the average guest age dropping to 46.3 years in 2024 from 46.7 in 2023.
The finding comes as overall Irish cruise passenger numbers increased last year by 11.3% to 65,000, the highest total recorded.
The Mediterranean remains their destination of choice, with 61.3% of all voyages taken. The Caribbean came in second at 17.7%, while northern Europe was at 6.1%. The latter scored a 25% uplift in overall journeys taken, representing the highest growth among the main cruise itineraries.
The average length of a sailing is 7.9 days. For the first time, the CLIA-member cruise line fleet exceeds 310 ocean-going vessels. Overall capacity increased by 3.4% across 2024.
Andy Harmer said: "Cruise is thriving among Ireland passengers, with the convenience and value-for-money a holiday at sea offers shining through. As the average age continuing to drop, and with more choice available than ever before, these are very exciting times for the local market.
"We'd like to say a huge thanks to everyone in Ireland for their support, including all the local travel agents, who we will continue to back by investing in their training, resources and events."

Irish Press Trip to Tunisia courtesy of TUI Ireland & Tunisian National Tourist office UK & Ireland
Weβve moved to Sousse and to the lovely resort of El Kantaoui. Weβre languishing! In the opulent surrounds of TUI Senou Royal Kenz (member of Magic Hotels). The medinas are Aladdinβs caves and, when we sip traditional mint tea from our silver tea pots, we could be Ali Baba! Itβs been an incredible journey to see the countryside and to walk the streets of Tunis, historic Sousse, Kairouen, Mahdia and El Jem with its 3rd century Colosseum! Watch this space for more excitement from Tunisia.πΉπ³

TUI Ireland Tunisia tourism
I want to be an African Queen, but whereβs Humphrey Bogart when ya need him?
Tunisia truly is an eye opener. The country teems with historical marvels - Carthage, the Moorish village of Sidi Bou Said, les Temples des Eaux and plenty more. Lovely museums and mausoleums are everywhere too. Of course, the medinas are probably the biggest draw for most visitors and they are genuinely great fun and an exciting shopping experience. As for the spicesβ¦.. your senses are reeling in the markets. Our amazing hosts TUI Ireland and Moncef from the Tunisian Tourist Office UK & Ireland are certainly showcasing Tunisia and lauding its attractions.
