DJ / Music Producer / Remixer HI EVERYBODY, WELL STARTED TO LIKE MUSIC AT A VERY YOUNG AGE. I GOT INTO MIXING AT 12 YEARS OF AGE. I THINK IT WAS AROUND 1986.

MY FIRST BUY WAS NIK KERSHAW - THE RIDDLE 7" AND FIRST 12" WAS KING - LOVE AND PRIDE. I USED A STEREO WITH A TAPE DECK. ID RECORD A FEW BITS OF SONGS AND TRIED TO CREATE THE STUTTER SAMPLE EFFECT WITH THE PAUSE BUTTON. AFTER A FEW YEARS I FINALLY GOT VARIABLE SPEED BELT DRIVEN DECKS AND AN ICE 20/20 MIXER. REALLY WANTED THE SL1200S, SO WORKED MY ASS OF FOR A YEAR AND BOUGHT THEM IN LEXLIP. AFTER L

ISTINING TO CLEM FRANCIS ON KISS FM AND HIS 12" SHOW, I GOT INTRESTED IN 12" VINYL BIG TIME, ESPECIALLY THE RARE REMIXES. I GOT MY FIRST REAL GIG AT THE OLYMPIC BALLROOM WHEN IT WAS A ROLLER DISCO. WITH THANKS TO JIMMY THE LOCAL DJ, HE GAVE ME AN HOUR SLOT EACH WEEK ON THE TRENT 2s. IN 1987 I JOINED DISCO MIX CLUB AND RECIEVED A MONTHLY PACKAGE OF 3 12" VINYL DISCS WHICH HAD MEGA MIXES AND REMIXES, ALSO A MAGAZINE. AFTER LISTINING TO THE MIXES I DECIDED TO GET SERIOUS WITH THE DJING AND MIXING. I BUMPED INTO OLLIE DOWLING AND HE WAS A DJ PROMOTER AT THE TIME. HE PUT ME INTO SMALL BARS AND CLUBS IN DUBLIN CITY THROUGH THE LATE 80s AND EARLY 90s. AROUND 1992 UNDERGROUND DANCE MUSIC WAS CROSSING OVER FROM THE UK SLOWLY INTO IRELAND. I WAS TOLD BY OLLIE THAT I NEEDED TO LISTEN TO THIS MUSIC AND UNDERSTAND IT. AT THE TIME I WAS PLAYING BANARAMA AND BRONSKI BEAT AND THAT SORT OF MUSIC, THATS ALL EVERYONE KNEW. SO MY FIRST UNDERGROUND GIG WAS IN SIDES DC. I WAS TO PLAY WITH DJ LOFTY FROM THE UK. THE GIG WENT GREAT AND I WAS INTRODUCED TO UNDERGROUND MUSIC. FROM THEN ON I WAS GIGGING 3 TIMES A WEEK IN VARIOUS CLUBS AROUND DUBLIN. I QUICKLY GOT TO BE A PROFFESIONAL MIXER IN THE UNDERGROUND SCENE. EVERY DJ IN DUBLIN WAS IN THE ABBEY MALL CHECKING OUT THE VARIOUS RECORD SHOPS INCLUDING ABBEY DISCS AND THE OVERPRICED BEAT RECORDS. DUBLIN WAS BECOMING MORE AND MORE AND UNDERGROUND CLUBBERS PARADISE WITH DJs BECOMING MORE AND MORE PRIVATE ABOUT WHAT THEY WERE BUYING AS EACH DJ WANTED TO OUTDO THE OTHER WITH THE VINYL HE HAD. RADIO PLAYED A BIG PART IN HELPING THE UNDERGROUND SCENE GET BIGGER AND NOTICED BY THE WHOLE COUNTRY. MY FIRST RADIO SHOW WAS IN 1988 ON L.L.C.R. LIBERTYS LOCAL COMMUNITY RADIO. THEN THERE WAS RADIO DUBLIN AND THEN A SMALL SLOT ON D.L.R. LATER I HAD SHOWS ON SUNSET FM AND HAD A SAT NIGHT SHOW ON CLUB FM FOR A FEW YEARS. AS THE SCENE GOT BIGGER THE EVENTS GOT BIGGER. I WAS PLAYING 2 HOUR SETS IN THE MANSION HOUSE DUBLIN, AND CORK CITY HALL EVERY WEEK. ALSO THROUGH CLUB FM I GOT SETS IN THE HARP COMPLEX, TIN PAN ALLEY AND MANY OTHERS. I WAS AT THE HEIGHT OF MY DJING CARRIEAR IN THE MID TO LATE 90s. ALSO I HAD MY OWN RESIDENCY IN DANGER DOYLES AND THE MISSION NIGHT CLUB IN TEMPLE BAR. I WAS WORKING 4 NIGHTS A WEEK IN MY RESIDENT BAR ALONG WITH 2 NIGHTS A WEEK FROM CLUB FM IN OTHER CLUBS. OLLIE WANTED ME TO DO PRODUCING AS WELL AS MIXING. SO I BOUGHT MY FIRST 4 TRACK. IT WAS THE AMSTRAD 100. ALSO I BOUGHT A ROLAND D20 AND A CASIO CZ101 KEYBOARDS. I DIDNT KNOW HOW TO PLAY THEM , SO I SELF THOUGHT MYSELF BY LISTING TO MUSIC AND TRYING TO PLAY ALONG WITH IT. MY CLOSEST THING TO GETTING A REMIX THAT I HAD DONE WAS IN THE EARLY 90s WHEN I WAS ASKED TO DO 2 REMIXES OF NIGHT AND DAY BY U2. I DID THEM AND I WAS BROUGHT DOWN TO WINDMILL STUDIOS FOR SOME GUY TO LISTEN TO THEM. THE GUY WAS A PURE HEAVY METAL ROCKER THAT KNEW NOTHING ABOUT BEAT MIXES. SO THAT WAS THE END OF THAT. WRONG TIME AND PERSON. IN 1997 I GOT AN OFFER TO GO ABROAD TO TURKEY TO DJ FOR 6 MONTHS. I WENT OVER AND ENDED UP DOING 5 SUMMER SEASONS EACH 8 MONTHS LONG. 2 WORDS (NO REGRETS) NOW IM BACK IN 2012 AND HAVE BOOKINGS IN SOME POPULAR CLUBS. LOOK OUT FOR THE F.N.O. FLYERS....

No computers, sequencers or wavs.
Just live playing into the 4 track and pages of tracks, samples and channels.
Loved every minute of it and kept all my work on cassettes.
