🎙️ I am thrilled to announce the release of our latest podcast episode featuring an insightful discussion with two incredible guests, Jordan and Dr. Marc Feldman. In this episode, we delved into Jo's story, a survivor of medical abuse, specifically Munchausen by proxy. The conversation was eye-opening and filled with valuable insights that I believe are crucial for raising awareness and understanding of this form of abuse.

Here are three key takeaways from this thought-provoking episode:

1. The Impact of Medical Child Abuse: Jo shared her personal experience of being a victim of Munchausen by proxy, highlighting the long-lasting effects of such abuse on a child's physical and psychological well-being. The discussion shed light on the challenges survivors face in trusting themselves, their bodies, and the world around them.

2. Challenges Faced by Healthcare Professionals: Dr. Marc Feldman provided valuable insights into the challenges faced by healthcare professionals in identifying and addressing cases of medical child abuse. The conversation emphasized the importance of education and awareness among doctors, therapists, and other professionals to effectively support survivors and prevent further harm.

3. The Need for Support and Resources: The episode highlighted the critical need for support and resources for survivors of Munchausen by proxy. Organizations like Munchausen Support, led by Jordan, play a vital role in providing survivor support groups, consultations, and resources to help individuals navigate the complexities of their experiences and find healing.

I encourage you to listen to the full episode to gain a deeper understanding of this important issue and learn how we can collectively work towards creating a safer and more supportive environment for survivors of medical abuse.

By befriending and understanding our protective parts, we can start to unravel the deeper layers of our inner world and address the root causes of our emotional triggers. This process allows us to connect with the exiled parts of ourselves that hold onto feelings of inadequacy or unworthiness, often stemming from past experiences or childhood trauma. By building a relationship with these exiled parts, we can offer them compassion, understanding, and healing, ultimately leading to a greater sense of wholeness and authenticity.

Working with Anger:

Anger is a powerful and often misunderstood emotion. Many of us have been taught that anger is bad or that it should be suppressed. However, when we deny or ignore our anger, it can lead to negative consequences for our mental and physical well-being.

In her book, "It's Not Always Depression," Hilary Jacobs Hendel explores the importance of acknowledging and working with our emotions, including anger. She emphasizes that anger is a natural response to perceived threats or injustices, and it serves as a signal that something is not right.

So, how can we effectively work with anger? Here are a few key points:

Recognize and validate your anger: The first step is to acknowledge and accept that you are feeling angry. It's important to remember that anger is a normal and valid emotion. Give yourself permission to feel angry without judgment or shame.

Understand the underlying emotions: Anger is often a secondary emotion that masks deeper feelings such as hurt, fear, or sadness. Take the time to explore what may be triggering your anger and try to identify the primary emotions that lie beneath it. This self-reflection can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your needs.

Express your anger in healthy ways: It's crucial to find healthy outlets for expressing your anger. This can include talking to a trusted friend or therapist, engaging in physical activity, or practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or meditation. Avoid resorting to aggressive or destructive behaviors that may harm yourself or others.

Set boundaries and communicate assertively: Anger can be a signal that your boundaries have been crossed or that your needs are not being met. Learn to assertively communicate your feelings and needs to others, using "I" statements to express yourself without blaming or attacking. Setting clear boundaries can help prevent anger from building up in the first place.

Practice self-care: Taking care of yourself is essential when working with anger. Engage in activities that bring you joy and help you relax. Prioritize self-care practices such as getting enough sleep, eating well, and engaging in regular exercise. When you take care of your physical and emotional well-being, you are better equipped to handle anger in a healthy way.

Remember, working with anger is a process that takes time and practice. It's important to be patient and compassionate with yourself as you navigate your emotions. By acknowledging and working with your anger, you can develop healthier ways of expressing yourself and create more fulfilling relationships.

There are three types of inhibitory emotions discussed: anxiety, shame, and guilt.
These inhibitory emotions can prevent us from fully experiencing and processing our core emotions, leading to symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and other defense mechanisms. The goal is to recognize and validate these inhibitory emotions, allowing us to access and work through our core emotions healthily and constructively.
