Three years ago, I set off on a mission to combine two parts of my life that have held me together when I was in a cauldron of chaos mentally. Music and Mindfulness. For so many years I felt that meditation was out of reach for me. I would suffocate in panic anytime I focused on my breath. But the frequency and melody of certain music became the anchor of my attention and allowed me find my way into my inner world. I have tried to write and produce something alongside some sound souls in @eliotjamesmusic @mixedbyaidanc @camdenrecordingstudios that can do the same thing for those of you who struggle to be present in meditation. We are finally coming to the end of that process and now we prepare to release it to the world. It is a body of work that I’m very proud of. I sincerely hope it helps to create a sonic sanctuary are those of you who find the world overwhelming at the moment. Honest question. When you hear people talking about the issues with young people and mental health, what do you think is the best way forward? I think we need to move past theorising on whether there is an issue and debating on what we should do. I think spending weeks arguing about phone pouches is just a distraction. The solution is early prevention/intervention. The evidence screams at us, yet systematically we do not focus on it. That is why myself and my brothers and sisters @johnpblake114 @kipper_maguire @deefitz05 @colinclarkemobile @pbmullingar @digitalray @wolfhound_joe @howardbrunton34 @custom__built_guitars @maserart done the Rising for @a_lust_for_life . We are now in over 50% of Irish primary with free evidence based mental health programmes and are this year piloting our first year programme for second year. I am getting a bit exhausted hearing decision makers and leaders admiring the problem rather than working towards a solution . Ireland can be world leaders at youth mental health, but it requires far more courage and bravery from those that govern us. Also delighted the rising nominated for @outsider.ie this year. For Years I had a very negative relationship with my breath. It was the biggest manifestation of my panic attacks. When I focused on it , I would invite even more panic. When I started my mindfulness meditation journey, it was music that allowed me find the present moment without the overwhelm I associated with my breath. Whether that was composing it , playing it on the classical wind down or listening to it, it always brought me to a different state of mind.
