Today marks a full year at AECOM, and what a journey it's been! From a dream to reality, not a single day has passed without feeling proud to be part of the world's top Quantity Surveying firm. The journey has been incredible, and the best part? Working alongside some of the most talented and inspiring people in the industry, who have helped me learn and shine.

Time truly flies—it feels like just yesterday I started, and here I am celebrating one year. Here's to many more years of growth and success!

Have you ever noticed how some people seem to get annoyed when others ask for their support?

I believe there are two types of people: those who seek help and those who are capable of offering it. If someone reaches out to you for help, consider yourself fortunate. Why?
Because being asked for help means you’re in a position where your knowledge, experience, and abilities are valued. This isn’t something you’ve earned entirely on your own—it's a role that life, or perhaps a higher power, has placed you in.

Think about it—what if the roles were reversed and you were the one in need? It’s not always a comfortable place to be.
So, when someone comes to you, be grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in their life. Remember, help doesn't always mean financial aid. It could be as simple as offering guidance, sharing information, or just being there for someone who needs support.

A common mistake young professionals make when approaching a potential employer is not understanding why companies hire. It's important to remember that companies don't hire people out of kindness; they do it because they need specific skills and knowledge.

When reaching out to a company, focus on showing how you can contribute to their success instead of just talking about your need for a job.

While your references might help you land an interview, but it's your ability to add value that will secure the job. So, when sharing your resume, writing a LinkedIn message, or attending an interview, keep this in mind: prioritize the value you can offer over your own need for the job.

Sharing a few pictures from the Advanced Training Event that took place in Birmingham, UK, last month. It was a wonderful experience with lots to learn, fun activities, and a wealth of knowledge shared. A huge thanks to AECOM for hosting such an amazing event for over 100 Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, and Engineers from the UK and Ireland. It was an honor to connect with and hear from top leadership. There's no doubt that AECOM is one of the top construction consultancy firms in the world, and the credit goes to its leadership and team for making a real difference.

Why do some people hate being called lucky?

Many proudly label themselves as hard workers, giving credit for all their achievements solely to their efforts. But think about it—isn't everyone working hard in their own way?

Consider the laborer on a construction site, working 8-10 hours per shift. Isn't that hard work?

Or the student attending university classes and working part-time to afford heavy fees—isn't that hard work too?

Some people even manage two jobs—isn't that hard work?

I believe that about 70% of our success comes from luck, prayers, and blessings. The remaining 30% is our hard work. Every success we achieve is a gift from God, either to reward or test us. So, let's stay humble, kind, and always ready to help others. We're truly blessed in more ways than we realize.

If you are not successful today, maybe it's just not the right time. But you will be one day soon. There is nothing wrong with you or your efforts, so believe in yourself and keep doing what you love. Be proud of yourself.

Received a message on Instagram, and here’s my reply:....
That’s really good news that you’ve been selected for an interview. Congratulations, you’re almost there! Being invited for an interview means they’re impressed with your resume and experience, and they need someone like you for their tasks and responsibilities.

Help them trust you with your experience and knowledge; don’t fake it. Be yourself and stay calm. People tend to mess up when they’re nervous, so remind yourself of all the positive things to stay calm. Remember, you were selected from thousands of candidates—you’re special and can give your best here.

The interviewer might have already reviewed your resume, so they’ll likely ask questions accordingly. Make sure you know what you’ve mentioned. They may conduct several interviews, so stand out with your knowledge, experience, or commitment. And don’t forget to add a touch of humor and smile where appropriate.

Feels like just yesterday I made the big move from Dubai to Dublin, and today marks a whole year since then, on June 28th. It wasn't easy leaving everything behind—emotionally, financially, and in so many other ways but I made it through. Time really flies! (Alhamdolillah)
