Here is a list of a few interesting findings from the book "150 Years of Quantity Surveying": 1. Benjamin Thomas Patterson started his Quantity Surveying firm while still living at his mother's house in 1860. This small beginning eventually led to the creation of a multi-million-dollar company!2. In the early days, contractors appointed a single surveyor to prepare a common set of quantities, with the successful contractor paying the fee.3. Benjamin Patterson is credited as "the doyen and practically the originator of the Quantity Surveying profession in Ireland." His work set the standard for the entire industry.4. In 1872, Patterson partnered with John Kempster, leading to projects like Ashford Castle, the National Museum, and Dublin's South City Markets. 5. By 1890, Patterson & Kempster were assigned public works worth 2,229 euros, far outpacing their competitors. The Irish authorities simply stated, "They have confidence in them." 6. In 1906, Patterson & Kempster installed their first telephone, costing 10 euros per annum.7. After Benjamin's passing in 1907, Patterson's detailed bills and precise takeoffs became the benchmark for future projects, exemplifying quality and accuracy.8. In 1911, John Kempster became the first chairman of the Quantity Surveyors sub-committee in Ireland, which eventually became the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI).9. During the 1960s, Patterson & Kempster heavily relied on just two clients—Guinness and Trinity College Dublin—for a large portion of their projects.10. In 1986, PKS expanded its presence by opening a London office, working with well-known clients like Marks & Spencer, Boots, and Smith Industries—a testament to their growing influence.11. By the 2000s, construction methods had evolved significantly, with "pods" for kitchens and bathrooms becoming popular. These pre-fabricated units saved time and costs during building projects.12. By 2002, PKS became a full member of Davi
