Grown Ups by Marian Keyes

I wanted a break from my usual thrillers, murder mysteries and I certainly did with this.

There are lots of characters to keep up with but it is a very easy read.
It's witty, heart warming about a glamorous family and their tangled stories. Many of the characters are flawed which makes an entertaining read. There is a character you wont like, one you will love, one you will feel sorry for and one that you will make you so angry that you may throw the book out the window.
I enjoyed this book very much and recommend it if you want to escape your usual genre.

I was delighted to see The Book thief by Markus Zusak
This book is one of my favourites, it is about a girl as she grows up in Germany during World War 2. She steals books to help her through her life.
Markus Zusaks style of writing is unbelievable, it is witty, beautiful, haunting and heart breaking, the book is narrated by DEATH, to even cone up with that idea is genius.
This book will have you crying, I dont mean a lump in your throat, I mean shoulder shudder sobbing!!
It is an emotional rollercoaster but one you should 100% go on!

The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Attwood

Well wow, what a book!! Everyone needs to read it, it is so powerful and bleak in equal measure. It is a dystopian novel centred around manipulation and power over women.
Offred the main chatacter is very intelligent with a dark wit, and you cheer her on throughout the novel. If you put yourself in her shoes you could go to a very dark place.

One of her powerful quotes "You wanted a women's culture. Well, now there is one. It isn't what you meant, but it exists. Be thankful for small mercies"

I don't want to give too much away for those who haven't read it but in her previous life she had an outspoken feminist mother, a family and a very close friend, this was before her freedom was taking away and her body is used in the cruelest way.
