Every five years, Tipperary County Council develops a new Corporate Plan to guide the objectives and values of the Council as we deliver for you. The preparatory work for the Corporate Plan 2024-2029 is underway and Tipperary County Council is seeking your help in identifying the challenges and strategic objectives the Council should prioritise over the coming 5 years.

The Corporate Plan will set out the Council’s vision for the next 5 years in key areas, such as Economic Development & Tourism, Community Development, Climate Change & Sustainable Development, Housing, Social Inclusion, and Infrastructure.

This survey is an opportunity for you to have input into the formulation of Tipperary County Council’s Corporate Plan for 2024-2029. Yesterday at the Municipal District Meeting I submitted and subsequently passed a motion calling on the council to examine potential uses of the old convent grounds in Cashel.

The former Convent grounds, is around 2.8 acres, in Cashel, has been in the possession of the local authority since 2001. I appealed to management that this municipal body should consider proposals for its use, and ensure it’s beneficial to the local community.

I believe this new council must prioritise a future use of the site and this project must be put firmly on the council’s agenda.

I urged the Council to engage with stakeholders, carry out the necessary reviews and let’s move forward on this site. This will now be done.

I believe it would make an ideal place for young and old to enjoy various amenities in an outdoor community setting.

I presented some of my ideas to fellow Councillors and Management:

🌺 Sensory Garden
🏋🏻 Outdoor GYM

The potential is there. I will work with all stakeholders to ensure we don’t allow this once beautiful place continue to be run down and dilapidated.

🏆 Presentation Thurles has triumphed as the new All-Ireland U20s National Cup champions! In a thrilling final held in Dundalk, they overcame the challenge of the previous champions, Scoil Mhuire Buncrana.

The match was a nail-biter, ending in a 0-0 stalemate in regular time. However, the tide turned in extra time when Molly O’Dwyer found the back of the net, securing a 1-0 victory for Presentation Thurles. This marks their third prestigious crown in history.

A special shout-out to our team captain, Grace Flanagan from Cashel, who led the team with exceptional skill and determination. Notably, Grace also holds the honor of being the Cork City U19 captain. Her leadership was instrumental in this monumental victory. Congratulations to the team and their proud captain! 🎉

Cashel set to benefit from Uisce Éireann’s water mains replacement works

Issued 25 January 2024 -
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Tipperary County Council, is replacing approximately 300 meters of old water watermains in Cashel. The watermains that were prone to frequent bursts and leakage are being replaced with new modern pipes.

Once complete, the works will provide a more reliable water supply, and reduce high levels of leakage.

The section of works will take place along Rock Lane, from the junction with Moor Lane and end at the junction into the R660. The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply. These works are due to start Monday 29 January and are scheduled to be completed in March.

Once completed customers in this area will enjoy an improved water supply with less disruption. Shareridge Civil Engineering are contracted to carry out the work on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

Commenting on the project, David Murphy, Uisce Éireann said “To facilitate the safe delivery of the project and to minimise impact on the community, areas of work will be limited to short sections.

Traffic management will be in place at this time, in the form of a stop/go system and traffic lights. Hours of work will be 8am - 5pm (Monday – Friday) and 8am - 1pm (Saturday). Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained”.
Murphy continued “

This essential work is part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to improve the water network across the country, prioritising investment where it is needed most enabling these communities to thrive.”

This project is one example of how Uisce Éireann is working in partnership with Tipperary County Council to reduce leaks every day. Fixing leaks can be complicated.

We have over 63,000 km of water pipes underground in Ireland – enough to circle the earth one and a half times. Most leaks aren’t visible, resulting in precious water being lost but we are making progress.

In 2018 the rate of leakage nationally was 46%, by the end of 2022 it was 37%. We are on track to achieve a national leakage rate of 25% by the end of 2030.

The works may involve some short-term water shut offs and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water shut offs. Uisce Éireann understands that this type of work can be inconvenient and work crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption.

I am writing to extend my sincere apologies for the comments I made during my recent appearance on TippFM, in which I referred to PJ Quinlan in a manner that was inappropriate and unprofessional.

I understand that my choice of words, specifically labelling him as a "liar," was completely inappropriate, and I deeply regret using such language. It was neither respectful nor constructive, and I recognize the negative impact it may have had.

I would like to clarify that my intention was to highlight discrepancies between the information provided by the Community Engagement Team of the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration, and Youth, and the public information available regarding the terms and conditions of the International Protection Accommodation Service. Based on this information, there appear to be significant differences between what was presented and what PJ has conveyed.

My goal was to emphasize the importance of transparency and accuracy in discussions concerning such matters, but I recognize that the choice of words I used was inappropriate and unhelpful.

I would like to express my regret for any harm or discomfort my comments may have caused PJ and his family, and I understand the need for civil and respectful dialogue when discussing these complex issues.

I am committed to fostering a more constructive and respectful public discourse, and I will strive to choose my words more carefully in the future.
