Today we release the digital edition of our third WOODSTOCK publication and invite you all to attend the launch of our new WOODSTOCK Book in the Athy Library at 6.30 this Thursday!

WOODSTOCK is a regular publication exploring and celebrating the rich heritage, natural landscape and social life of the Woodstock area. Issue #3 features beautiful photographs and details about the birds of Woodstock. Featuring Athy Photographic Society

All issues of WOODSTOCK are first distributed as a printed publication to the communities of Athy West Urban (Dominic’s Park, Carbery Park, Greenhills, Townspark and Castlepark). Now we are excited to share this with the wider town of Athy and beyond. We invite you to share with us your stories, photos, videos/drawings of the Woodstock area so that we can add them to a collection for future upcoming publications and events.

We have attached the third issue as images, that can be easily printed off and put together for people to peruse in their own time, or even share and drop in to friends, family and neighbours who may not have access to Facebook, or are not technology minded.

Save the date!! You are warmly invited to the launch of the new “WOODSTOCK” book and the official launch of Woodstock Castle Press at 6.30pm Thursday 3rd October in the Athy Library.

Woodstock Castle Press is a new community publishing initiative established in 2024 by artists Mark Durkan and Mary Jo Gilligan and Rose Doyle, Chairperson of Athy West Urban Community Group in collaboration with communities in the Woodstock area.

Woodstock Castle Press was set up to serve as a platform to explore, celebrate and give voice to the communities of Woodstock. The series of mini-publications called “Woodstock” were designed as a way for the communities to first connect with each other and secondly to communicate with the wider town and beyond. We are now proud to announce the launch of the new “WOODSTOCK” book that will gather all of the “Woodstock” publications and brand new material, into a larger book. The book will be presented in Athy Library on Thursday 3rd of October as part of an evening of story-telling, music, celebration and chat. This will include a talk on the rich heritage of the Woodstock area given by artist and archaeologist Marc Guernon and historian Clem Roche, music by Robert Chanders and Carmel Day and additional special guests, with more to be announced.

Food and drinks will be provided. All welcome!

Woodstock Castle Press emerged out of the Creative Places Athy Woodstock Artists Residency, funded by Creative Places Athy and Kildare Leader Partnership – empowering communities, Slaintecare – Healthy Communities, with additional funding by Kildare County Council Heritage Office.

It's great to see our little publication get some acknowledgement and with that, we wish to acknowledge those who have helped us get this far.

Many thanks to Conor Forrest and the Kildare Nationalist for this great article about the work that we are doing in Woodstock!

Without the community contributing their stories, their local expertise, their generosity and all round goodwill, this project would never have been possible.

In particular we would like to thank Roseanne Gray Doyle, Chairperson of Athy West Urban community group, who has been a key collaborator and has been central in driving the project forward.

For those of you that wish to make contact with us, there is a slight correction to the email address published. Please do send us any material to [email protected]

Welcome to the second edition of WOODSTOCK!

WOODSTOCK is a regular publication exploring and celebrating the rich heritage, natural landscape and social life of the Woodstock area. Issue #2 features amazing artwork by local artist and archaeologist Marc Guernon and takes a further look at the heritage and stories of Woodstock Castle.

All issues of WOODSTOCK are first distributed as a printed publication to the communities of Athy West Urban (Dominic’s Park, Carbery Park, Greenhills, Townspark and Castlepark).
