I had a conversation with Brice Hancock who is the CEO of Mile High Sober Living. We talked about his underworld journey of addiction that took him to within an inch of his life. And how he found his way back from the brink and into a fulfilling life.

It was great to talk with him. And it left me with some questions. Like:

Is addiction akin to possession in the shamanic sense?

In AA there's a need to give yourself up to god. But is there also a god in the addiction? Would it work to imagine addiction as a curse from one of the gods? And would locating that god help?

What are we really reaching for when we reach for the substance of choice? Is there some kind of Dumbo's Feather situation happening?

And quite a few more questions that are always on my mind when I ponder addictive processes.

Loving this two-part episode with Zoë Tryon . We explore her extraordinary journey from English Aristocracy to embedding herself in an Ecuadorian Tribe in the Amazon.

There's a poignant moment in Part One where she raises her hands up to the sky in a moment of breakdown in London and says, 'If you're really there, use me!'

24 hours later she was on her way to the jungle.

Maybe that's where we are together at this fractured moment in history. Hands up to the sky. Skeptical if anyone is up there. Praying regardless.
