U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptors and the 199th Fighter Squadrons Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) F-35A Lighting II’s launch during Talisman Sabre 23 at RAAF Base Tindal, Northern Territory, Australia.

Talisman Sabre is the largest bilateral exercise between the U.S. and Australia and demonstrates the capability to rapidly deploy and operate to accomplish a wide range of missions alongside joint and allied partners to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Assault Breacher Vehicle detonates 100-meter explosion to clear mine field

A Company, 116th Brigade Engineer Battalion's M1150 Assault Breacher Vehicle live fires mine clearing line charges (MICLIC) to sweep battlefields of improvised explosive devices during their training at the National Training Center (NTC) at Ft. Irwin, Calif. The rocket-projected MICLIC is able to clear approximately eight meters wide by 100 meters long through a detonated explosion.

Combined Division sling load an M777 howitzer over mountains during a gun raid as part of Exercise Warrior Shield at Rodriguez Live Fire Complex.

Gun raids are conducted to attack high payoff targets when the range exceeds the artillery piece's current position. Warrior Shield is a training exercise within the 2nd Infantry Division that employs Fight Tonight fundamentals and capabilities.

Fort Novosel Helicopters UH-60 Black Hawk Prepare Flight

The Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk is a four-blade, twin-engine, medium-lift utility military helicopter manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft. Sikorsky submitted the S-70 design for the United States Army's Utility Tactical Transport Aircraft System (UTTAS) competition in 1972.

The Army designated the prototype as the YUH-60A and selected the Black Hawk as the winner of the program in 1976, after a fly-off competition with the Boeing Vertol YUH-61.

Lightweight Machine Gun Course

U.S. Air Force Lightweight Machine Gun Course tripod mounted M240 B medium weight machine gun live firing at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis, Texas.

The course is two-weeks long culminating in three days where students familiarize themselves with weapons by live firing in multiple conditions and is designed to ready students for mission demands on day-one of assignment at their new base.

Swedish Gripen jets practise landing on highways

Swedish Air Force Gripen fighters practised the delicate art of landing on civilian highways during an exercise near Gothenburg, Sweden.

Swedish fighter pilots learn how to land on civilian roads to give them extra flexibility in the event of a crisis.
If airbases, airports or auxiliary landing strips are damaged or otherwise unavailable, the JAS 39 Gripen fighters can land on roads that have been deliberately engineered to accommodate landings by fighter jets.

The Gripen is Sweden’s premier multirole fighter, with a reinforced landing gear that props the plane high enough above the asphalt to prevent debris from getting sucked down the jet intake.

Checkered Flag operations Fighters launch from Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida.

Checkered Flag, hosted by the 325th Fighter Wing, is one of the DoD’s largest air-to-air exercises and is designed to integrate 4th- and 5th-generation airframes to enhance mobility and employment capabilities of aviators and maintainers. The exercise responds to Air Combat Command’s plan to train the Immediate Response Force, a dedicated force for “rapid response” to unforeseen or unplanned operations.

U.S. Marines with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 214 (VMFA-214) conduct a flight brief, pre-flight operations and take off at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma, Arizona.

VMFA-214 was previously known as Marine Attack Squadron 214 (VMA-214) and was equipped with AV-8B Harriers, this was their first time officially flying the F-35B Lighting II as an operational squadron.

The United States Air Force Heritage Flight was created in 1997 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the United States Air Force (USAF) and to showcase how the service evolved since its split from United States Army Air Corps in 1947.
It incorporates fighters from World War II, the Vietnam War, the Korean War and other conflicts in which the USAF has been involved.
