Space Apps Challenge 2016 Awards #1 / People's Choice Finalist - Avis (Skopje / Macedonia):
"Avis is a solution that involves a smart wristband and an Android app to help drone operators control the drone, notify them about weather and near no-fly zones. A working prototype has been made with Parrot AR-Drone and a Bluetooth LE wristband."

Space Apps Challenge 2016 Experience #9 / Roberto Vallejo (Space Apps Quito Lead):
"The most challenging issue was to bring together support of private and public institutions (due to an uneasy political environment), to obtain resources to built the event in a hard economic situation we are living in Ecuador and getting people together after a natural disaster."

The story goes as follows: Roberto Vallejo rallied his community for Space Apps Challenge a few weeks after a 7.8 earthquake hit the coast of Ecuador forcing them to postpone their originally scheduled event. In the wake of the tragedy, Roberto formed collaborations with a number of local organizations to support Space Apps Quito. The group added additional challenge statements tackling some of the disaster relief predicaments faced by the community.

Space Apps Challenge 2016 Experience #8 / Christine Phu (Space Apps Phoenix):

The main topic of NASA Space Apps Challenge 2017 is our beautiful Earth. That also means you will be able to provide innovative solutions to big, important, everyday challenges we are all facing. And NASA does have a lot open data you will be able to use. To sum it up: big challenges, big data and big solutions!

Even though guys and girls at NASA and Space Apps Challenge are trying their best to ease it up as much as they can, the whole planning process can be quite exhausting. Mega-projects like Space Apps Challenge require precise clock synchronization of each and every task, down to the smallest ones.

But you know what? It is all worth it! We are investing in the greatest resource known to men: our collective knowledge. And we will be transferring it to the most valuable treasure we have: our young generations. :)

Space Apps Challenge 2016 Experience #7 / Rasha Al-Khateeb (Space Apps Amman):

"In my country, people usually think of space exploration as something out of our reach. I loved it when people started saying: 'We will create a colony on Mars' and 'We will mine asteroids'."

We could probably say the same thing for Croatia. That is exactly why it's so important to bring space, space exploration and space technologies closer to the young generations. We need to show them that there is literally nothing between them and the brightest, smartest and awesome-st future!

"It was difficult to understand the whole concept and challenges, but we had a meeting before the event where it got explained. We have never thought we could help develop a concept for an app about creating a biosphere and that for a NASA Challenge. This sounds so crazy!"

"Choreographing the challenges for Space Apps requires an elegant dance to ensure the final outcome represents the diversity of NASA's missions and engages participants with compelling topics aligned with their technical expertise."

As Space Apps P**a hackathon competitor, you will be able to choose topic(s) that best suits your skills, knowledge and aspirations. Last year there were Easy, Intermediate and Advanced categories. And this year? Well, you will just have to wait and see. Topics will be announced publicly by the end of the March / early in the April. Stay tuned!

P**a, Croatia is a very, very special and awesome place. This year it will also become a launchpad for the awesome Croatian space projects! Save the date: NASA Space Apps Challenge 2017 P**a, April 29th - 30th, 2017.

Space Apps Challenge 2016 in numbers #9 / "...ernmost" Events:
Easternmost - Auckland City, New Zealand
Southernmost - Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Westernmost - Honolulu, Hawaii, United States
Northernmost - Vassa, Finland

Grad P**a is the largest city in the Istria County. It also holds couple of Guinness World Records like "Largest torchlit image formed by people" and "Longest neck tie". This year we will add "Westernmost Croatian Space Apps City" to the local "...ernmost"-list.
