The Hong Kong Furniture and Decoration Trade Association (HKF&DA) participated for the first time in the Maison&Objet interior design trade fair on 16 – 20 January 2025 in Paris, France, with the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as the lead sponsor of this debut participation.

Held at booth H184, Hall 7 Signature, HKF&DA’s presentation, titled “HK+FR: Furniture for World Design”, partnered with Hong Kong manufacturers, esteemed local design masters, and award-winning Rising Talents from Maison&Objet 2023 and 2024.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of HKF&DA.

As part of The Hong Kong Jockey Club's 140th anniversary, a digital exhibition in Tai Kwun lets visitors experience the wonders of the Forbidden City.

Flash! The Palace Museum - A Pop-Up Digital Experience, uses cutting-edge technology to bring the museum's treasures to life. Supported by HKJC and exclusively sponsored by the Institute of Philanthropy, the exhibition provides a unique opportunity to digitally dive into ancient Chinese culture.

"Being one of the key activities of the Promotion of Chinese Culture and Arts Tech Talent Development in the Mainland and Hong Kong, a collaborative initiative between the club, the IoP, and the Palace Museum, the exhibition vividly introduces the architecture and artifacts of the former palace through interactive multimedia technology," said Lester Huang, club steward and IoP chairman.

Ocean Park welcomes the birth of a Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey baby, born in the Park at 9:51 pm on 16 January 2025. This is the fourth golden snub-nosed monkey offspring born in Hong Kong to mother Le Le and father Qi Qi.

Le Le and her baby are both in good health, but the baby’s gender and weight are yet to be determined. The golden monkey habitat is temporarily closed to allow time for nursing the newborn golden monkey baby and the animal caretaker team to carry out postnatal care for the baby and mother. The Park will implement crowd control measures at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures.

Blindspot Gallery is presenting Chen Wei’s second solo exhibition with the gallery, “Breath of Silence”, on view from February 18 to April 5, 2025, presenting his recent body of works encompassing photography, LED light sculptures and video.

Chen is known for his staged photography capturing cinematic scenes suspended in a fragmented time space; these scenes are meticulously constructed in his studio. Muted and often vacant, these charged compositions are allegorical of the psyche of contemporary milieu. His LED sculptures and video installations further transpose in three dimensionality the urban textures and motifs photographed on lens.

For the inaugural exhibition in Tai Kwun's Breakthrough series, In the Land Beyond Living, artist Tao Hui examines everyday lives caught in the currents of modernization in seven installations.

"In the Breakthrough series, we're committed to nursing young talented artists in our region", said Pi Li, head of art at Tai Kwun. "We're very honored to invite a remarkable young Chinese artist like Tao Hui to be the first in our series."

This exhibition also marks a series of firsts for Tao. "This is the first time I did a large-scale exhibition in Hong Kong," he said. "It also marks my first time working with glass as a sculpture medium and collaborating with a professional film production team."

The Inclusive WestK Community Engagement Programme (the Programme), organised by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA or the Authority) and sponsored by Yau Tsim Mong District Office of the Home Affairs Department launched its kick-off ceremony today. As the Programme enters its third year, the Authority has designated January 2025 as the “WestK Inclusive Sharing Month”, during which a series of accessible and inclusive activities will take place at WestK.

During the “WestK Inclusive Sharing Month”, WKCDA will present 12 inclusive arts and cultural activities, which will be participated in by over 500 participants from 30 schools and organisations. The activities include:
Inclusive Tea House Theatre Experience and Touch Tour (10-11 January 2025)
M+ Accessible Guided Visits to the M+ Collection (14 and 17 January 2025)

As a highlight of “Art March 2025”, the HKPM will present the special exhibition “A Movable Feast: The Culture of Food and Drink in China” from 19 March to 18 June 2025 in Gallery 8.

This exhibition will take the audience through a feast that traverses spiritual, cultural, and physical spaces. It explores the culinary culture and lifestyle of ancient Chinese people through the evolution of food vessels, eating practices, and traditions, presenting approximately 110 exquisite works. These objects, primarily on loan from The Palace Museum, span from the Neolithic period (c. 10000 BCE–c. 2000BCE) to the Qing dynasty (1644–1911).

Tai Kwun is announcing InnerGlow’s return for 2025, poised to illuminate the site with captivating 3D mapped projections for the fourth year running.

For over two weeks, InnerGlow will set the Parade Ground aglow, lighting up the façade of the Barrack Block with a brilliant visual journey from 6:30pm to 9pm nightly. Reaching into the Lunar New Year, InnerGlow and InnerGlow Searchlight will be displayed from 26 January to 14 February 2025. The programme is made possible with core funding provided by The Hong Kong Jockey Club through its Charities Trust as one of Tai Kwun’s arts and heritage programmes, and CLP Holdings Limited as the Principal Sponsor.

The Hong Kong Fringe Club has announced that the Fringe Festival 2025 will take place from January 2 to January 26, 2025.

The festival will showcase performances from local, Macau, mainland Chinese, and international artists, featuring both emerging talents and renowned masters. Participants include internationally acclaimed jazz guitarist Eugene Pao, jazz maestro Ted Lo, two-time world harmonica champion CY Leo, award-winning pianist Rachel Cheung, and Hong Kong’s first all-female jazz orchestra, among others. Over 1,000 artists will be involved, making this a highly anticipated event in the arts community.

Kicking off a brand new year, the 51st HKTDC Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair, the 16th HKTDC Hong Kong Baby Products Fair and the 23rd Hong Kong International Stationery & School Supplies Fair, jointly organised by the HKTDC and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, launched yesterday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and will take place over four consecutive days.

Themed New Play for All, the trio of fairs brings together more than 2,500 exhibitors from 34 countries and regions. The three fairs reveal several product trends, including digitisation, green toys, and the popularity of cross-age group products.

M+ will present Avant-Garde Now: Sensing Time on Saturday, 15 February 2025. Four invited artists—Takashi Makino (born 1978, Japan), Raqs Media Collective (established 1992, India), Morgan Wong (born 1984, Hong Kong), and Tzuan Wu (born 1985, Taiwan) will present their research and artistic experiments on the topic of time through a mix of analogue and digital screenings, and performances.

Tickets for the full-day event of Avant-Garde Now: Sensing Time covering five programmes are now available on the M+ website, priced at HKD 120 for Standard; and HKD 96 for concessions.

In celebration of the 5th anniversary of L'ECOLE Asia Pacific, a newly curated exhibition titled "Shakudo: from Samurai Ornaments to Jewelry" was unveiled on December 11th.

For this occasion, L'ÉCOLE is showcasing more than 30 pieces of jewelry with European mounts adorned with shakudō elements inlaid with gold, silver and copper, depicting collection Japanese from the Edo period. All the jewelry pieces come from a single collection, shown to the general public for the first time.
