If you saw a Santa Claus look-alike with a slightly European twist on Tai Pak Beach this past Sunday, you were not daydreaming. The annual Czechoslovak St Mikuláš (Saint Nicholas) party brought gifts, cheer and good vibes to a sandy version of a celebration traditionally held on December 6 in many parts of snow-covered Europe.
Much like Santa Claus, the bearded St. Mikuláš, with the loyal Angel and cheeky Krampus by his side, bore gifts to children of all ages who had behaved well this past year and were not shy to sing a Christmas song in exchange for the coveted toys and candy.
The community-organised event, held in Discovery Bay for the fourth time, attracted families from all over Hong Kong. It was a blast, with the good times and the snacking continuing long after St Mikuláš and his two compatriots announced their departure with the ring of a bell.
