President Dr. Irfaan Ali this morning received the Letters of Credence from Maria Cristina Perez Gutiérrez, the Kingdom of Spain’s Non-Resident Ambassador to Guyana.

Ambassador Perez Gutiérrez is based in Trinidad and Tobago.

During brief discussions, President Ali highlighted key areas for cooperation, including agriculture and food security, oil and gas, trade expansion, and the strengthening of bilateral ties.

The Minister of Health, Honourable Dr Frank Anthony yesterday met with several medical service providers to discuss the rollout of the Government of Guyana’s Voucher Programmes.

At the meeting, the Minister announced that aside from the eye testing, spectacles and cervical cancer vouchers, the Ministry will roll out the health screening voucher valued at $10,000 for all Guyanese.

Joining yesterday’s meeting was also the Permanent Secretary Malcolm Watkins.

Mobile X-Ray services available in Reg. 9 for the first time

For the first time, Mobile X-Ray services are available to residents of Region Nine through the Lethem Regional Hospital.

"We are thrilled to announce that the residents of North Rupununi are the first to benefit from this incredible service," the Hospital said in a Facebook post.

The medical facility said specialist outreaches will be conducted across the region, ensuring that other villages will also have access to this vital healthcare service.

"This is a huge step forward in fulfilling the government's commitment to providing healthcare services to all citizens, breaking down barriers related to location, age, socioeconomic background, gender, or disability," the hospital concluded.

𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐣𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭

An early morning accident which occurred on February 5,2025, on the Soesdyke Linden Highway, has left two drivers severely injured and three vehicles badly damaged.

Kevin Bess, the owner and driver of a black sand truck bearing registration number GAF 6177, suffered a broken leg and laceration to the face, while Danesh Jagrup owner and driver of a white Toyota Allion bearing registration number PAH 7965, has sustained laceration to his face.

The accident occurred approximately 4:54 hrs and involved two trucks and a car, however, no life was lost.

Firefighters from the Timehri Fire Station was on the scene and ably extricated Kevin Bess from the truck he was pinned in and transported him to the Diamond Diagnostic Center, where he received medical care.

Drivers are therefore encouraged to apply the five 5 Cs of Driving: 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞, 𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐲 when on the roadways, as this will help to keep our roads safe while reducing the incidents of road accidents.
