Unique Analog Mastering Studio
Magnetic Fidelity is a unique 100% analog mastering and analog media production facility. It is the kind of place Alice would have found in Wonderland, had she been an audiophile engineer, on a mission to create music, that is covering the entire frequency spectrum of whale hearing. The studio took over three years to build, since the finest craftsmanship and materials have been used throughout the construction, and the world's finest examples of audio equipment were carefully selected to kit out the studio. A large portion of the equipment used at Magnetic Fidelity has been extensively modified, or even designed and constructed specifically for us. Our signal processing chain consists of fully analog, vacuum tube equipment, operating at shockingly high voltages, using some of the best components the electronic industry has ever created. Every last vacuum tube has been carefully selected and hand tested to fit the particular piece of equipment it is used in.
Apart from the obvious advantage of keeping analog audio in the analog domain throughout the entire production process, there is also a significant advantage offered by analog mastering of a digital recording. Digital recordings often sound cold, harsh and lifeless compared to analog recordings. This has more to do with psychoacoustics and how we are used to perceiving recorded sound, rather than an objective measurement of quality. The analog mastering process can often add substantial warmth and restore the liveliness of a digital recording. This process is especially recommended for digital recordings which will be released on analog consumer media, but also sounds great when the music would just end up back in the digital domain. Our aim is to offer an honest analog mastering service and high quality analog media production at fair prices.
By separating the disk mastering (Vinyl Record Master Cut) stage from the manufacturing rush of the vinyl record factory, our artisan disk mastering service can focus on high fidelity, achieving the transfer of the sonic information to the disk medium with the lowest degree of deterioration and compromise, while maintaining the character of the recording according to the wishes and preferences of the producer or artist. To ensure customer satisfaction with our part of the work, we offer free of charge test cuts for approval before the masters are cut and sent out to the factory. We devote as much time as required for the optimum transfer of each project and perform quality checks through test cuts and laboratory measurement and calibration instruments.
Technical challenges keep life interesting for us, so we will happily cut masters with a wide dynamic range and frequency content, ensuring compatibility and good taste. Additionally, we can scribe "secret messages" on your record or create unusual visual separations between selections, among other specials. After the plating stage, we can also offer to receive and evaluate test pressings on our reference reproduction and measurement system to confirm the success of the manufacturing operations and thus ensure your absolute satisfaction and peace of mind.
