"The exhibition “As She Rests, the Wrestler Bleeds her Promises” at the Opbo Studio (86 Filonos, Piraeus) showcases sculptural gestures, photographs and archival materials that interact with or complement the dance performance “W REST L ING,” conceived and choreographed by Anastasia Valsamaki. The performance will take place at 9 p.m. on the opening night, February 10. Valsamaki’s work encourages viewers to explore the intermediate points between combat, resistance, fear and inertia as catalysts for personal transformation and collective evolution. Admission is free."

«Μεγαλώνοντας δεν μου ήταν κατανοητό ποιες από τις επιθυμίες ή τις ανάγκες μου ήταν αποδεκτές, ποιες όχι και γιατί. Αυτή η αίσθηση του άγνωστου και του μη γνωστοποιήσημου κινητοποιεί τη δουλειά μου και την έρευνα μου. Δεν είναι δηλαδή τόσο ότι συνειδητά εμπλέκω συγκεκριμένες επιθυμίες, όσο ότι στο φαντασιακό πλαίσιο μέσα στο οποίο κινούνται οι μορφές που ζωγραφίζω επιτρέπονται οι εντάσεις της μη κατανόησης, της απουσίας γνώσης, η περίπτωση κάτι να μην γίνει γνώριμο ποτέ. Παρόλα αυτά και όπως σημείωσα πριν λίγο, η κατωτερότητα του κοριτσίστικου, και ειδικά του κοριτσίστικου που ακολουθεί λανθασμένα πρότυπα όπως οι νεράιδες και οι πριγκίπισσες, μου είναι πολύ σημαντικά. Με αλλά λόγια, μια εμπειρία από την οποία αντλώ είναι το να θέλω να είμαι κάτι που δεν είμαι (νεράιδα) ή να μοιάζω κάπως που δεν μοιάζω (πριγκίπισσα Σίσση) και αυτό να είναι ένα βάρος ή πρότυπο που λανθασμένα έπεσε πάνω μου όπως και σε πολλούς άλλους ανθρώπους αλλά αντί να το γιατρέψω ή να το αποτάξω, διαλέγω να το ανακαλέσω και να παίξω μαζί του».

We want to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us at the Eye Filmmuseum last week for the opening of 's solo exhibition, "Feed me. Cheat me. Eat me." Your presence made that night truly special, and we can't thank you enough for your support.

We firmly believe that art brings people together, sparks conversations, and deepens our understanding of the world. That's why we're grateful to have been a part of this show, collaborating with Janis in the production of her work.

FEED ME. CHEAT ME. EAT ME. Janis Rafa presents her new solo exhibition in EYE filmmuseum Amsterdam💥

How can humans and other creatures coexist?

The new solo exhibition by Greek artist and filmmaker Janis Rafa serves as a silent tribute to stray and domesticated dogs, roadkill, hunted prey, animals in factory farming, and other victims of late-capitalist society.

In Rafa's evocative films and video installations, the leading force is formed by the silent presence of non-humans such as dogs, horses, and cows. Blending fiction with the mundane, she highlights structures of power, domination, and control. Rafa explores themes such as affection for the non-human body, interspecies relations, and coping with loss among the ruins of the worlds she creates, located on urban fringes, post-industrial sites, abandoned buildings, and decaying agricultural landscapes.

The exhibition features a collection of previously exhibited works as well as a new body of work, including the short film "The Space Between Your Mouth & Tongue" (2023), which was produced by opbostudio and supported by , EMST Athens, and .

Visit the exhibition and explore an unfamiliar, timeless archive where idealized and demonized symbols and seemingly opposing forces coexist 🧜🐽

As curator Ioanna Gerakidi mentions:
“Pinaka’s works come with symbolisms affiliated both with idealized or demonized figures and creatures. From mermaids or princesses, to ballerinas representing western beauty standards, mystified or praised for these exact qualities in the 80’s and 90’s, to pigs and other animals or species unknown, carrying the semantic burden of dirt and filthiness, Pinaka’s show longs for staying with and taking care of contradictory schemes.”

Janis Rafa at Eye Filmmuseum for her new solo exhibition 'Feed me. Cheat me. Eat me.' 👁️‍🗨️🎥

We are pleased to announce that the artist and filmmaker Janis Rafa, who had the honor of presenting her first solo exhibition in Greece at the opbo studio last May, curated by Ioanna Gerakidi, will be presenting a new solo show at Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on October 14.

The title of the exhibition, 'Feed me. Cheat me. Eat me.,' encapsulates mankind’s capricious attitude towards nature, as well as the underlying sense of melancholia and whimsicalness that is evident throughout her oeuvre, as stated in the press release.

The exhibition will feature a series of older works, some of which were previously presented in Rafa’s show at the opbo studio, as well as several premieres, including the short film Landscape Depressions (2023) and a new multi-screen video installation.

Both our founder, Alexandros Tiliopoulos, and our curator, Ioanna Gerakidi, are delighted to be closely collaborating with Janis Rafa on this exciting composition of film, installations, and textual works!
