Daily Lazy and opbo studio are proud to present LOTA, a solo exhibition by Canadian artist Nadia Belerique, opening June 12, 2026 at opbo studio in Piraeus, Athens.

Working fluidly between photography, sculpture, installation, and video, Belerique transforms ordinary materials and everyday spaces into carefully staged environments where perception becomes unstable and deeply physical. At the heart of LOTA is a new video and sculptural installation of the same name, developed during a residency in the Azores as part of the Walk & Talk Biennial in 2025. Filmed inside the sustainable fish auction house of Ponta Delgada, the work transforms the market into a stage where the circular movement of the conveyor belt becomes an allegory for the cycles of extraction, consumption, and decay that govern both human and ecological economies.

Presented at opbo studio — an industrial space located near the Port of Athens, among the Mediterranean’s largest and most active maritime sites of circulation and trade — LOTA enters into direct dialogue with its surroundings. Within this context, the exhibition becomes especially attuned to the material and economic infrastructures shaping the movement of goods, bodies, and images. LOTA ultimately asks how contemporary infrastructures — architectural, economic, and perceptual — regulate not only the circulation of commodities and images, but also the conditions of access and belonging themselves.

Meet the curator Àngels Miralda

Àngels works loosely on the connection between landscape and identity. How is culture formed from the outlines of mountains, the consistency of soil, and the availability of fresh water? Human identity is a negotiation with our material surroundings. Imperialism as a cultural model is defined by impositions of forms and cultures out of sync with their exterior reality and championed by the politically servile institution. Just as humanity is defined by its relation to landscape, so can it adapt to change, migration, and climate shifts - and this resilience of mutation is an integral part of critical contemporary culture.

Miralda is internationally recognised for her theoretical and critical texts such as “Who Killed the Independent Curator?” published in Frieze Magazine as well as her four-year tenure as editor-in-chief of Collecteurs Magazine that persistently called on institutional accountability in the face of ongoing genocide in Palestine. She has organised over 60 exhibitions in the last 10 years including the large-scale international biennials Contemporary Biennial TEA (2024), and two editions of Off-Biennial Cairo (2023 & 2025). She has organised institutional shows at MAAC (Guayaquil), Radius CCA (Delft), Tallinn Art Hall (Estonia), MGLC - International Centre for Graphic Arts (Ljubljana), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chile (Santiago), Museu de Angra do Heroísmo (Terceira - Azores), and the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art (Riga). She has been a member of since 2018.
