International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression

The purpose of the day is to acknowledge the pain suffered by children throughout the world who are the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse.

⭐️Violence against children affects more than 1 billion children around the world

⭐️50% of the world’s children experience violence every year.

⭐️Every 5 minutes, somewhere in the world, a child is killed by violence

⭐️ 1 in 10 children is sexually abused before the age of 18, more than 90% of abusers are people children know, love and trust…

⭐️ 246 million children worldwide affected by school-related violence each year

⭐️ 1 in 3 students has been bullied by their peers at school in the last month, and at least 1 in 10 children have experienced cyberbullying.

⭐️ Any child can become a victim of online violence.

❓What can you do?

❗️Help children to understand that their bodies belongs to them, that there are good and bad secrets and good and bad touches.
❗️Teach children “the golden rules of screens”, a basic set of rules, to empower children to protect their privacy and their image in the digital environment.
❗️Illustrate the psychological pressure that family abusers can apply on their victims.

BOOK CLUB READ - MAY - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

White Chrysanthemum by Mary Lynn Bracht is a profoundly heartbreaking novel that delves into the harrowing experiences of two Korean sisters during World War II. The story of Hana, captured and forced into sexual slavery from very young age as a ‘comfort woman,’ and her little sister Emi, who spends her life searching for her lost sister, is both tragic and deeply moving. Bracht’s poignant writing captures the pain, resilience, and enduring love between the sisters. This book is a haunting reminder of the atrocities of war and the unbreakable bond of family. It’s an emotional journey that will stay with you long after the last page.

It’s a sad story but also really gripping. You’ll feel like you’re right there with them. Definitely worth reading if you’re into emotional historical reads.

We read this book in May for our Book lover’s book club and we plan to gather to discuss it tomorrow evening in Glyfada - everybody is welcome ;-)

Finally finished The dictionary of lost words - just on time for our monthly book club meeting this evening in Glyfda. We meet up once a month to talk about the book we read that month, share our impressions, analyze character development, explore themes and symbolism, recommend similar reads and enjoy delicious drinks together 🧋🧉🍹. (Drop me a message if you would be interested to join us for this or any following meetings ;-) )

Now a bit about the book: this novel follows the journey of Esme, a young girl who collects and preserves words neglected by the male lexicographers. Through Esme’s eyes, we witness the power of language to shape our understanding of the world and the importance of inclusivity in defining it.
