🟣 If you find yourself constantly tapping on the wrong tile, use 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 to help you. Tap inside the clue box of a row or a column, to lock taps on that particular row or column only. Taps outside the line are not registered, saving you from frustration 😱 and headaches 🤕.

Tap on the same clue box again (or anywhere outside the grid) to turn it off, or on another clue box to move the lock line to a new row or column.

Version 1.1.0 has been long in the making. It brings clans into play as well as a total visual overhaul.

# New Features

# # It's better with a team

Mad Pixels' focus has always been about multiplayer, but so far players have been practically watching everyone else from afar. It's high time we change that, as we bring you CLANS. Create your own, or join an existing one, and battle it out along with your puzzle solving friends.

# # Chat it out!

Being in a clan allows you to talk with your teammates in realtime. Talk about the clan's strategy or just have fun chatting.

# # Daily Quests

Do quests every day and earn points for your clan. You get points for playing an easy, a medium and a hard puzzle every day, as well as finishing the tournament. Clan points are what put the clans on the leaderboard, as well as upgrading their levels.

# # And speaking of clan levels...

Each new clan level gives space for 5 more clanmates. It also gives its member 10% points bonus on all puzzles (except for tournaments), and it unlocks new designs for the clan's emblem.

# # Designs for the Clan Emblem?

Oh yes. Instead of choosing static pictures for your clan's emblem you can actually design your own by combining backgrounds, badges and decorations in the colors you want, resulting into more than 38 billion (yes.. BILLION) emblem combinations. Make yours stand out, or let Mad Pixels draw a random one for you if you don't feel very artistic.

# # Keep it tidy and organized

To run a clan as a tight ship, we've also given you the tools to do so. You can make your clan public or private where players will have to apply to join, restrict recruits to a minimum player level and above, and make your clan global or country specific. You can also post your clan's rules and assign roles to the clan's players either in recognition of their achievements in the clan, or to help you maintain order in your team.

# # And all that in a shiny new package

Mad Pixels is not a nonogram app. Mad Pixels is a nonogram GAME. As such, we've spent countless hours overhauling the look and feel so that not only it's fun, but it looks as such too. (Of course, this was posted on April Fool’s day 😉 )

Mad Pixels is changing direction. We are switching gears and the focus of the game will now be Idle Nonograms. Collect photon tokens by completing tasks, with which you can power Axel and his siblings into solving the puzzles for you. They'll solve while you're in the game, but they'll also solve while you are offline. Be careful with your photon output though as you might end up overcharging your pixels and killing them. You can check a preview of the new gameplay already in the game. No update needed!

We are ready! The release date for Mad Pixels has been set for December 5 (if all goes well). Stay tuned as we'll be throwing a Release Party (albeit in Google Meet - Damn You Covid-19) with webcams and drinks!

An enormous THANK YOU to all the beta testers, and make sure to check the in-game messages. There's a lil' gift for you to go nuts with, before all progress is wiped for the release!

This version brings an onslaught of new features, improvements and bug fixes

New Features

Next Puzzle

You've asked for it. You've asked for it again. And then you asked for it even more. As we're closing to the final release, we can focus on Quality of Life improvement features, and this one has been in the list for quite some time. You can access it when you finish a puzzle and after the point rewards screen as now you have the option to either go back to the Home screen, or play the Next Puzzle. The Next puzzle will always be of the same difficulty level as the one you just finished, and once again it will be selected randomly from the available puzzles. If there are no more available puzzles you will get a message as per usual.

Audio Enrichment

The new sound effects initiative has grown a bit and now there are sounds for actions that were previously missing (such as when you view a player's profile). The sound you hear when you complete a tournament has also been changed into a more satisfying fanfare! Additionally, whenever the game sound needs to stop (viewing an ad, or putting the app in the background) it will now fade out (and back in when you return) instead of getting abruptly cut.

Thank you for Beta

As you all (hopefully) know, when the game gets officially released, all scores, stats, unlockables, puzzles etc will be completely wiped and reset for all users and everyone will start from the beginning (Your accounts however will remain with the system). As a token of appreciation however for all of you who have helped me test the game and squash bugs these past 6 months, you are getting two special and exclusive avatars that are only available to players who have joined during the beta.

Speaking of Avatars

We can't have enough of them. So a few more have been added, and a few have been redesigned, including animation 🙂. Also, if you missed any previously unlockable avatars on earlier levels, those are now automatically unlocked for you.

What's your name?

You can already change your name through the account screen (accessible by tapping on your avatar), but quite a few players seem to totally miss that feature and keep sporting themselves as random Pixels in the leaderboard. Now, when you reach level 3, (if you haven't changed your name already) you will be asked to enter a name for yourself. Additionally changing your name now comes with a gem cost, to discourage players from using the name change for malicious purposes. The first time you change your name is free. Subsequent changes cost 500 gems.

Background Patterns

The pixels background pattern in game is very fitting, but cosmetic item beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. As such, we've added quite a few Background Patterns for you to choose from. You can see and change to the one you like in the Account Section, and buy more in the Shop.

More shop items

There's been a focus on powerups, tools and avatars in the shop. Now the shop also includes additional background patterns, background colors and pixel colors to purchase and use during the game.

Image Diet

All puzzle images have gone through a strict diet (optimization) and are now 40 to 70% smaller in file size. This drastically reduces the time required to get new puzzles, sync or recover your account, and loading of the Trophy Case. It also drastically reduces the amount of space required to store those on your phone, which is especially helpful for players with devices that have little available storage space. Finally, it should improve the game speed, especially on older devices.

Random Puzzles get even more Random

You always get a random puzzle for the next one you'll play, but those were always being selected of a pool of puzzles that the game downloaded from the server in sequence (in batches of 10), so even with the random selection in place, all players would play pretty much the same puzzles in the same order. This has been changed and batches of puzzles coming from the server will be totally random for all players.

Touch it

The vibrations (haptic feedback) you get from touching various items in the game have been worked on to make them more streamlined and meaningful.

Easter Eggs

We can't have enough of them! Of course we are not going to reveal where to find them, as that would defeat the purpose. Let's just say that this time around they come in with a buzz!

Responsiveness

A couple of in-game optimizations have been put in place, resulting into more responsive gameplay, especially on slower devices.

Bug Fixes

Back in your place

During the game over sequence, the portion of the screen that would get darkened was slightly off position. It has been put back in its place.

White Screen of Death

Sometimes, if you opened the tournament screen and closed it too fast, the screen would go completely white and the game would get stuck there. This has now been fixed. You can be as fast as you want!

Empty Lines in Puzzles

While we do have a mechanism that tries to prevent puzzles from having totally empty lines (which have no clues at all), a couple of puzzles managed to slip through the cracks and ended up in the puzzle rotation with empty lines in them. While the puzzles are still playable and solvable, puzzles with empty lines were never supposed to be available for play as their difficulty level is significantly lowered in comparison to other puzzles. These puzzles have been removed from rotation, and the empty line detection mechanism has been strengthened to detect and eliminate those puzzles even better.

Axel is Dead. Long live Axel

Axel the Pixel, the bot in our Discord server suddenly stopped working, due to changes Discord implemented in their api. We have Axel however his pills, and he's now back at work!

Push It!

Whenever the keyboard appears for you to type things in (like your name, or to fill out support requests) several text fields might end up behind the keyboard with no way to access them. Now these fields get pushed up gracefully.

Spin the Wheel ads

The Spin the Wheel button will now fade out if no ads are available to show (for instance if there is no network connection). It will also now work properly again if you decide to dismiss an ad before the reward time threshold has passed.

Stop that Sound

Game music will no longer keep playing if you put the game in the background while viewing the Tutorial.

Desync issues

Sometimes your account might get out of sync with the server, especially if you try to play with the same account simultaneously on two devices (as only one device is per account is allowed to communicate with the server at any given time). While the game will still keep functioning in that case, any score and progress you do will not be saved on the server, causing you to have to replay puzzles on your other devices. Now, in the case of such an event, the game will automatically take you to a lock screen informing you of the desync and preventing you to play more under this state. To continue playing you will have to restart the game and have it open on just one device at a time.

Version 0.3.45 (Open Beta) is out.

This version brings visual and audio improvements, puzzle point rebalancing and quite a few bug fixes.

**New Features**

Bleep Bleep
A new set of playful sounds have been added across the game for menus and buttons. As always, you can turn the sound effects on or off through the Settings screen.

Spin the Wheel
Gems on the wheel now have better and more playful animation (and a bit of sound) to make winning the Jackpot a more satisfying experience

Update Button
Whenever a new version is published and you get the New Version warning screen, you will now get a button that will take you directly to the app store page to update it.

**Game Balancing**

Puzzle Points
The point rewards you get for solving puzzles have been rebalanced to make them more rewarding, especially for higher levels. Now, for easy puzzles you get 50 points for solving the puzzle, 10 points for each life you haven't used, 2 points for each X you haven't drawn and 1 point for each second under the 2.5 minutes time limit. For medium it's 100 points for solving the puzzle, 20 points per unused life, 4 points for each X and 2 points for each second under the 5 minutes time limit. Finally for hard puzzles, it's 300 points for solving the puzzle, 60 points for each unused life, 12 points for each X you haven't drawn and 3 points for each second under the 15 minutes time limit. Puzzle completion points are also multiplied by 1 + 0.2 * the puzzle's level.

No more Excess lives points
Up to now, if you lost all of your lives in a puzzle but opted to continue playing (either by watching an ad or with gems), you would always get an additional life bonus for the one extra life you got. This is no longer the case. If you lose all of your lives during the puzzle, any extra lives you get will not count towards the unused lives bonus at the end of the puzzle.

**Bug Fixes**

Multiplier Indicator
The score multiplier indicator on the home screen, would not disappear when the Wheel time ran out. This has been fixed.

Tournament Notification Button
Clicking on the "Notify Me When Tournaments Start" button would not properly save your preference, and it would revert back the next time you started the game. We gave it some memory enhancing pills and now your preference will be remembered.

Leaderboard Visual Glitches
The Leaderboard header no longer appears squashed, and the extra margin that was added to the line with your name has been removed.

Jackpot Testing
In the previous version, a jackpot testing function Easter egg slipped through the cracks. Some players found it and exploited it vigorously. Unfortunately for those players, the function has been removed and they'll have to watch ads like the rest of us to spin the wheel.

Tournament Screen Layout
The visual elements of the tournament screen have been rearranged so that they fit nicely on all devices

Points Multiplier not Saved properly
The points multiplier from the Wheel was not being applied correctly during the saving of your score to the server, resulting into a point discrepancy between the score being displayed on the game and the one being saved on the server, making it seem like the server is reverting your hard earned points. This has now been fixed.

New Player Points
Due to a bug, new players would start at level 0 with no points. The intention (which is now the case) was for all new players to start at level 1 with 200 points (their reward for watching the tutorial)

Facebook login on Android
Facebook no longer complains about an invalid key when trying to connect your account to Facebook.
