|Central Square|.

🚶‍♂️ While strolling through Argostoli, don’t miss Vallianou Square, the central square of the town, a perfect place to enjoy a coffee, a refreshing beverage, or a meal.

✨️ Every evening, the square becomes a meeting point for locals and tourists and also brimming with children playing in a completely safe environment as the square is entirely for pedestrians.

📖 The square was named after the Kefalonian and national benefactor, Panagis Vallianos, whose statue now adorns the upper left corner of the square for more than a century but has been relocated a couple of times.

🎻Throughout the summer, a variety of cultural activities, dance events, and music concerts liven up the square in the evenings. Important part of the Kefalonian music culture are the Kefalonian kantades, traditional songs played with guitar and mandolin, an event you will definitely experience regularly every summer.

👜 Very close to the square, you can find the city’s archeological museums (temporary out of order due to renovation), the shopping street of Lithostroto, souvenir shops, caffés & restaurants.

|Enchantment|.

🏞 One of the well hidden natural secrets of are the waterfalls of Gradou, contributing with their presence to the plethora of the island’s natural phenomena.

📌 Located on the South-East part of the island, in the wider area of Eleios-Pronnoi, between Skala and Poros. More Specifically, deep in Gradou Canyon, there’s a line of waterfalls, ponds and flowing waters. Their Springs begin straight from  Mount Ainos Foothills, creating a network of rivers that flows through  the villages of Asprogerakas & Anninata, in a curvy distance of 4-5km until they reach the sea.

🌊 Potistis is the highest and most picturesque waterfall of Gradou Canyon, standing at the height of 18 meters and forming a small pond at its base.

🚶‍♂️The waterfalls of gradou can only be reached by hiking, on a very pleasant and easy accessed route. The most usual starting point is on the main road that connects Skala with Poros Village. Walking up this dirt path, visitors can experience and admire the rich flora of the area that is ideally combined with the crystal clear flowing waters. The Beauty of nature along the path have a charming dynamic.

🌊 As most Seasonal waterfalls, Gradou waterfalls have the highest water volume during each spring, while they usually dry up in the summer, as the torrents that feeds them with water don’t flow all year round.

🙆‍♂️ However, if you are lucky enough and visit the Waterfalls of Gradou on a warm spring day, do not even hesitate to cool off under their waters!

|Nymphs & Myths|.

📍 Nestled on the southeastern slope of Frydi hill near the picturesque village of Karavomilos, just 2 km northwest of Sami, lies the enchanting cenote of Melissani. This hidden gem is not only a breathtaking natural wonder but also holds significant geological, ecological, archaeological, and mythological importance, making it one of Greece's most revered caves. Melissani is an integral part of the extensive karstic network that characterizes the Sami region.

📖 Legend has it that the name "Melissani" derives from the tragic tale of the nymph Melissanthi, who, heartbroken by unrequited love, plunged into the depths of the cave's waters. Alternatively, local folklore suggests it honors Melissanthi, a young shepherdess who ventured into the cave in search of her lost sheep. Some even trace its origins back to Homer's Odyssey, where Melissani is described as the abode of the Melisses, or "human bees," guiding the hero Odysseus back to his homeland at the behest of Goddess Athena.

🪔 Evidence of Melissani's ancient significance abounds, with excavations on the islet within the cave revealing artifacts dating back to the 4th and 3rd centuries BC. These relics bear witness to the worship of Pan, the half-goat god, and the Nymphs, hence the alternate moniker "Nymph Cave." Its vaulted chambers, remote location, and tranquil waters likely made it an ideal sanctuary for ancient rituals, surrounded by the ethereal beauty of stalactite formations and lush vegetation.

|Stone Remnants|.

🌳 Someone could easily claim that Kefalonia is a miniature of Greece. It gives visitors the illusion that they’re not on an island due to its Geological diversity and frequent landscape contrasts.
🌉 The stone bridge stands proudly for centuries, since the time of the Venetian Rule, above the river that flows in the nearby valley, next to Grizata village. Significantly, it emerged victoriously in the battle of time and the wear & Tear of the natural Phenomena. It was used mainly by the rural population and farmers who wanted to transport livestock, carriages and agricultural equipment to their farm lands, or by travelers who couldn’t cross due to the high river water level.

🏗 The construction of the bridge dates to the end of the 18th C. A.D, while efforts to strengthen the structure were made during the period of British rule of the Ionian Islands (1815-1864). It suffered severe damage during WW2 & Earthquake of 53 'at a point where at the end of the 20th century the scattered ruins and stones made it impossible to cross.

♻️ The famous watermills of the area exploited the dynamic of the river for many years but unfortunately stopped operating after the catastrophic earthquake of 53'. A single watermill managed to survive, which continued to operate for at least another decade.

📌 The Bridge is located in a verdant area of unique beauty & wildlife, which in combination with the watermills, are irreplaceable elements of the beautiful hiking trail along the river, and contribute not only to the cultivation of alternative tourism, but also to the development of the wider area.

⚒In 2008 the bridge was completely restored by the Municipality of Sami and  today  is an attraction for nature lovers, hikers and tourists.

👏 Finally, the Municipality of Sami in collaboration with , have already started cleaning and restoring all the nearby old paths and hiking trails.

|Assos Village|.

📌 Assos is a small and charming village located 36 km north of Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia. Today, it counts about one hundred inhabitants and is one of the most charming spots of the island.

🏰 Dominated by the ruins of a 16th-century Venetian fortress, the village of Assos is built on a small peninsula reflecting a beautiful and warm atmosphere.
The traditional architecture, the peaceful landscape, and the pebbled beaches compose the natural beauty of Assos.

🚶‍♂️ A stroll around the narrow alleys reveals colorful houses with pink and white blooms, lovely paths, and old churches. Little taverns perched on the quayside overlooking the bay attract most of the visitors. The visit to the castle requires a long walk amidst the olive tree forests until you reach an archway. This journey is quite interesting and refreshing.
