# # # 1. TECHSPO Atlanta 2024
Το TECHSPO Atlanta 2024 είναι ένα διήμερο τεχνολογικό συνέδριο που θα πραγματοποιηθεί στις 30 Ιουνίου και 1 Ιουλίου. Το συνέδριο θα συγκεντρώσει προγραμματιστές, marketers και καινοτόμους για να παρουσιάσουν τις τελευταίες εξελίξεις σε τεχνολογίες Internet, Mobile, AdTech, MarTech και SaaS. TECHDAY 16 November Shigeru Miyamoto
On this TECHDAY in history, on November 16th 1952, Shigeru Miyamoto was born in Sonobe, Japan. He is a video game designer, producer, and director at Nintendo, and he is responsible for many successful best selling game series, such as Donkey Kong, Mario, The Legend of Zelda, etc. He is considered by a lot of people as one of the most influential and accomplished figures in the video games industry. Some of his games from the 80s, like Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, contributed to the Nintendo Entertainment System’s commercial success.

Today, Miyamoto continues to work at Nintendo, involved in the development of new games and technologies. Widely regarded as one of the most important and influential figures in the history of video games, and his work continues to inspire and entertain players of all ages.

The Apple Power Macintosh 7300/200 features a PowerPC 604e processor with MHz variants and memory of 16MB up to 1GB. Equipped with a floppy disk of 3” at 1.44MB and an HDD at 2GB it runs with the operating system of the MacOS 9 version.

The Apple Power Macintosh series is a family of personal computers from the core of the Macintosh brand line, replacing the Quadra series. This line with recurring releases between 1994 and 2006 featured a different architecture and a transition from Motorola processor to the PowerPC one.

TECHDAY 15 November Xbox first release
On this TECHDAY in history, on November 15th 2001, marked the Xbox first release! Xbox, Microsoft’s first gaming console, went on sale ifrstly in the US market. The Xbox was the result of four Microsoft engineers “experimenting” with pieces of a Dell laptop in order to assemble a gaming console that would run Windows. All of them were from the DirectX API development department. The original name of the device was DirectXbox, indicating the platform on which it was being designed. The name Xbox is an abbreviation of that. Xbox introduced some groundbreaking features, such as a built-in hard drive and Dolby Surround sound with real-time encoding. The Xbox went up against Sony’s Playstation 2 and, later, Nintendo’s GameCube. With around 25 million sales it narrowly beat the latter but fell far short of the former.

TECHDAY 14 November A Paragon of Transport Tech
On this TECHDAY in history, on November 14th 1913, Malcolm Purcell McLean was born. He was an American businessman and transport entrepreneur who changed the face of modern merchandise transportation. He developed the intermodal shipping container, radically transforming freight transportation and international trade in the second half of the 20th century. The use of this invention had many benefits, such as cost reduction of freight transportation, improved reliability, reduction of cargo theft, and shorter transit times, which, in turn, cut the costs of inventory.

He is best known for his role in revolutionizing the shipping industry by developing the first successful containerization system for cargo. Prior to McLean’s innovation, cargo was loaded and unloaded by hand, a time-consuming and labor-intensive process.

McLean founded Sea-Land Service, Inc. in 1960, which quickly became one of the largest container shipping companies in the world. He also played a key role in the development of the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) rapid transit system in New York City.

The Microsoft Kin Two features a GSM, HSPA Network connection without antenna, but including Wifi and Bluetooth. The operating system was the manufacturer’s and had color display and polyphonic sound.

The Kin series was a short lived family of mobile phones designed by Microsoft. The company marketed the product for users, young adults mostly, more into social networking and chating. For the manufacture of this product line responsible was the Japanese Sharp Corporation.

Unfortunately, the Kin ONE and TWO remained in the mobile phone market for only two months, 48 days to be exact, before Verizon decided to withdraw them. This family of phones was a rather unsuccessful page in the mobile phone division history of the tech giant.

TECHDAY 13 November First subaquatic message
On this TECHDAY in history, on November 13th 1851, the world’s first operational subaquatic telegraph cable carried a public message. It was a project developed chiefly by British John Watkins Brett (a telegraph engineer). The cable connected the city of Dover on the English side with the city of Calais on the French side, and it utilized the most narrow point of the English channel/ la Manche.

The Welsh-American electrical engineer and inventor worked on early attempts to transmit telegraph messages across the Atlantic Ocean. However, it was not him who sent the first transatlantic telegraph message. It was sent by U.S. inventor Samuel Morse on July 27, 1866. It was sent from the Poldhu Telegraph Station in Cornwall, England, to the Signal Hill station in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, and read, “What hath God wrought?”

Although Breck did not achieve the first transatlantic telegraph message, his work in this field was a significant step in the development of transatlantic telegraphy. He died in 1867 at the age of 33, but his contributions to the field of telegraphy were acknowledged by his colleagues and peers.

TECHDAY 12 November New generation USB
On this TECHDAY in history, on November 12th 2008, the third major version of the USB (Universal Serial Bus) standard was released. USB 3.0 offered many improvements, the most important of which was probably its speed. The new transfer rate, known as SuperSpeed USB (SS), can transfer data at a speed of up to 5 Gbit/s (Gbps), making it around ten times as fast as its predecessor the 2.0’s maximum, Hi-Speed. Manufacturers usually distinguish the USB 3.0 from the 2.0 connectors by using the color blue for the Standard-A plugs and receptacles, and by using the initials SS.

Another key features of USB 3.0, besides the high speed, is its backward compatibility. It is able to work with devices that were designed for earlier versions of USB. This allows for a smooth transition to the new standard, as users can continue to use their existing devices while also taking advantage of the new features and benefits of USB 3.0.

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 features a GSM Network connection without antenna, but with Wifi and Bluetooth. The operating system was the manufacturer’s and had color display and polyphonic sound.

BlackBerry Limited launched the Blackberry Bold Series in 2008 with the introduction of the 9000 model. Many experimentations were made with the software, hardware and the form factor, meaning the whole design and layout of appearance. The distinctive form factor accompanies another feature, the iconic QWERTY keyboard.

Putting the Bold Series in immediate comparison with the Curve Series, they present similarities in the hardware and software capabilities, but they have distinct differences as well. The Bold Series was the more expensive brand line with more valuable materials, per example leather, metal, carbon fiber and a soft touch. The Curve series on the other hand, were of plastic with a more glossy and flimsy touch.

The Company
Canadian company BlackBerry Limited, founded in 1999, started the brand of smartphones and tablets. Up until 2016 the brand line met enormous success, with the sales reaching 85 million units in 2011. After Android and iOS platforms entered the market on this year as serious competitors, the numbers of sales plunged, reaching almost only 23 million in 2016 and 11 million in 2017.

On 2016, the company ceased designing its own models and licensed third party companies to design, manufacture and market smart phone series under the brand. In 2020, Texan OnwardMobility showed interest in developing a 5G Blackberry smart phone, but later on, in 2022, announced their shutting down.

To note, the Blackberry Limited company now specializes in cybersecurity. Its products help manufacturers, enterprises, governments prevent hacking attacks.

TECHDAY 11 November New generation of PlayStation
On this TECHDAY in history, on November 11th 2006, was the original release of the game console Playstation 3, in the Japanese market. It was a console that introduced many innovations to the brand. It was the first one to adopt Blue-Ray Disk technology as its main storage medium, the first one to assimilate social gaming services (such as PlayStation Network), and the first one to accept handheld devices/consoles (PlayStation Portable and Vita) as controllers, via their remote connectivity.

The PS3 was the first video game console to include a built in Blu-ray Disc player, which allowed for high-definition video playback and storage of large amounts of data.

The console received critique on various matter. Some include the high price tag, lack of backward compatibility with PS2 games, and a lack of compelling launch titles. Despite these issues, the PS3 went on to become a popular and successful console, with over 87 million units sold worldwide.
