Mandinari Darusalam residents appeal for government's intervention as court gives its final verdict on the eviction of over 1,000 households.
Residents of Mandinari Darusalam this morning held a press conference to appeal to the government's intervention as soon as possible because their eviction notice expired yesterday.
According to Ebrima Sallah, the Sheriff Division issued an eviction to them dated the 13th of August, 2024, relating to a leased property located in Kombo Kerewan in the name of Mr. Serign B Jobe.
"By this notice, we are warned to vacate from the said property on or before 13th September, 2024. Failure to do so forceful eviction will be ensured ".
If the eviction is implemented as planned, it is expected to displace more than one thousand households with a total population of over twenty thousand.
Mr. Sallah, added that each compound owner has his/her land transfer documents, pays rates and taxes on the process of acquiring occupancy and title deeds . Thus, contributing towards national development.
"However, the land encroachment caused by Mr. Serign Jobe's leased property located in Kombo kerewan has hindered our documentation."
The community urge the relevant authorities to find urgent and helpful solutions, to explore all possible means to resolve this issue.
Mr. Serign Jobe's leased property is located in Kombo kerewan but due to his encroachment they said the community of Mandinari Darusalam is included.
