NOTICE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Interim Executive Committee of The Gambia Musicians Union wishes to react formally to a post by Sheikh Omar Jallow (SOJ) Director of Creative and Performing arts at the National Council for Arts and Culture captioned “National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) announces the Congresses of The Artistic Associations of The Gambia”

Base on the content of the Facebook and WhatsApp post on the name of SOJ we here by Reject the stipulated date as an agreed date with the Executive of MUSIGAM. We are not aware of this date as we have pending issues to finalise before a date is posted/Shared.

The interim executive have over the past weeks been in constant contact with The NCAC through email, telephone conversations and meetings with regards to preparations to congress prominent amongst which is the budget and dates for this very important gathering of Musicians in The Gambia.

To date we have not agreed to any specific date as scribed by Mr. Jallow. We have sent a comprehensive email since October 28 2020 with an attached draft budget which he didn’t check nor did he get back to us. We urge him to follow due process which we have been following with him and Mr. Hassum Ceesay from the drafting of the Constitution to budget. As a matter of fact no congress date can be picked without the logistics and budgets of that congress being in place as agreed upon officially.

We expect that the Executive of the Musicians Union will be allowed to make its own announcements of the dates agreed to our members in consultation with the NCAC for the sake of best practice and for Ethical reasons.

A press conference will be convene in the coming days to announce dates, venue and other logistics as we forge ahead to prepare the ground for a congress that reflects Gambian Musicians from accross all regions and not just the Greater Banjul Areas. We will continue to work closely with the NCAC as our focal point at government level. We strongly recommend Mr. Jallow and The NCAC to allow us to give this congress a face that will bring together all Gambian musicians together and not otherwise.
