Rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has been sentenced to a fine of 300 Penalty Units (GH¢3,600) by the Accra Circuit Court for displaying arms and ammunition on social media.

This was after the ‘Omo Ada’ hitmaker changed his ‘not guilty‘ plea to guilty and was convicted on his own plea.

Medikal had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge at the Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Emmanuel Essandoh.

The court was expected to rule on an application filed by Medikal’s lawyers to order the police to release the R***r nine-millimeter pistol belonging to the musician.

However, when the case was called Monday morning [Feb 21, 2022], Medikal told the court that he wanted to change his plea.

The charges were read out to him and he pleaded guilty to the charges.

He has since been sentenced to 300 penalty units, that is GHS 3,600 Cedis or to serve a nine-month prison jail term in default of the payment.

SAVELUGU SHS STUDENTS STAGE DEMO OVER PPOR QUALITY OF FOOD.

Students of Savelugu Senior High School in the Northern Region on Sunday staged a demonstration against the management of the school over what they consider to be the poor quality of food served at the dinning hall.

The students, who protested in the school to express their displeasure, also complained about the quantity of food served.

They alleged that, some of the food items given to them had expired.

A teacher who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity explained that, “the students complained they do not get enough food and the food served was of low quality. According the students they resorted to embark on the demonstration because they are also not allowed to go outside the school’s premises to get food.”

A student also told Citi News, “they should just provide us with the right food,” while another said they have been complaining about the situation for a very long time but nothing has been done about it.

“We have complained about this issue many times, even our teachers are aware and at our meetings too we talk about it but no one is ready to do anything about it.”

School authorities are yet to formally respond to the students’ concerns.

QUEEN ELIZABETH TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

British monarch tests positive for the coronavirus and is experiencing mild, cold-like symptoms, Buckingham Palace says.

Britain’s 95-year-old Queen Elizabeth II has tested positive for COVID and has “mild” symptoms.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Sunday the 95-year-old British monarch will continue to perform light duties.

“Buckingham Palace confirm that the queen has today tested positive for COVID,” the statement said.

“Her Majesty is experiencing mild cold-like symptoms but expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week. She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all the appropriate guidelines.”

The queen has received three jabs of coronavirus vaccine.

Both her eldest son Prince Charles, 73, and daughter-in-law Camilla, 74, Duchess of Cornwall, also recently contracted COVID-19.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wished Queen Elizabeth a quick recovery.

“I’m sure I speak for everyone in wishing Her Majesty The Queen a swift recovery from COVID and a rapid return to vibrant good health,” Johnson said on Twitter.

Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, the queen reached the milestone of 70 years on the throne on February 6.

Close eye will be kept’
A fixture in the life of the nation, Elizabeth has been in robust health for most of her reign and has been photographed riding a horse as recently as 2020. In the past year she has been seen using a walking stick, and in October she spent a night in a London hospital for unspecified tests.

The queen’s doctors ordered her to rest after that and she was forced to cancel appearances at several key events, including Remembrance Sunday services and the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland in November.

This month she returned to public duties and has held audiences both virtually and in person with diplomats, politicians and senior military officers. During one exchange caught on camera last week, she walked slowly with a stick and said “as you can see I can’t move” in apparent reference to her leg.

Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, said members of the royal family would be concerned by the COVID-19 diagnosis, given the queen’s age. She turns 96 on April 21.

“In the coming days a very close eye will be kept on her and the indications are that, all being well, it’s nothing more than a minor inconvenience,” he said.

SAD NEWS: Music Entrepreneur and YouTube Star Jamal Edwards Dead At 31

Many of the top names in British music took to social media to pay tribute to the late Jamal Edwards, founder of online music platform SBTV.

Jamal Edwards, a British YouTube star and founder of SBTV, has died at the age of 31.

His passing was confirmed by representatives of his media company to the BBC on Feb. 20, following reports on social media. No cause of death has been revealed.

Edwards founded the online platform in 2006, with an initial focus on urban music, and has helped launch the careers of many U.K. artists including Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, and rapper Dave.

Tributes to the innovator have begun pouring in from all over the world on social media. Rapper Lady Leshurr tweeted the news of his death was "heartbreaking" and credited Edwards for helping her career.

She wrote, "He gave me opportunity after opportunity to showcase my talent from Brum into London. We need to keep his name and brand alive."

The organizers of the Mobo Awards shared they were "deeply saddened" by news of Edwards' death.

"As the founder of , his groundbreaking work & legacy in British music and culture will live on," they tweeted. "Our hearts and thoughts are with his friends and family."

Describing Edwards as a "legend," English rapper Jaykae tweeted, "I think I can speak for us all as artists and as supporters of UK grime/rap scene when I say I owe this man so much! Helped me sometimes without even speaking of it."

Denise Welch, who co-stars with the late entrepreneur's mother and X Factor alum Brenda Edwards on the British talk show Loose Women, said her heart aches for her friend.

"I can't bear it," she tweeted. "Jamal Edwards was a wonderful son and brother."

Edwards, who published the self-help book Self Belief: The Vision: How to Be a Success on Your Own Terms in 2013, was an ambassador for the Prince's Trust, a charity headed by the Prince Charles. In 2014 he was awarded The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to music, according to PA.

Music Entrepreneur and YouTube Star Jamal Edwards Dead At 31
Speaking to the outlet back in 2013, he explained he founded SBTV as a YouTube channel to give his friends a platform.

"It was a frustration of going to school and everyone talking about ‘how do we get our videos on MTV,'" Edwards said. "YouTube was like a year old. I was like ‘I've got a camera for Christmas, I'm going to start filming people and uploading it.'"

"Everyone was looking at me like ‘what are you doing, like you can compete with these major corporations', but I think I was early enough to believe that I could make a change."

In the same interview, he described his working relationship with musicians as "symbiotic."

"50% is the talent and 50% is the platform," he said. "I try to focus on people that haven't got the platform. As well as getting a really well-known artist I want to get the up-and-coming ones as well."

AFFORDABLE HOUSING: Rwanda's President Kagame has opened 2,200 environmentally friendly fully furnished housing units.

President Paul Kagame says Rwanda could have found a solution to the challenge of lack of affordable housing for many Rwandans following the unveiling of an eco-friendly housing project built through a public-private partnership.

The Head of State and the First Lady, Mrs. Jeannette Kagame, on Friday officiated at the opening of the first units of a multibillion housing project known as Bwiza Riverside Homes, located in Nyarugenge District, in the City of Kigali.

The project which will see 2,400 housing units built and sold at an affordable price is being developed by Rwanda Development Board (RDB) and ADHI Corporate Group, a private construction and investment company with origins from Gabon.

Speaking at the launch of the first phase which will see at least 252 units built before the end of 22, President Kagame said that the project could be the answer to the challenge of lack of affordable housing in Rwanda.

“I want to thank Mr. Soleman for the collaboration that has taken place between you, ADHI and our Government institutions to demonstrate what is possible in the area we have been seeking to make some progress for a long time without making good progress,” President Kagame said.

The Head of State said that the idea was born out of his chat with businessman Soleman Idd, the Chairman of ADHI Group, who he met several years ago and interested him in a housing project that would rely on modern technology and eco-friendly materials to deliver affordable units for many Rwandans.

He said Soleman showed him how the project can lead to achieving affordable housing for the population, especially the majority who need to have access to housing but don’t have high incomes.

President Kagame said he had faith in Soleman because whatever he said to him made sense and committed government involvement and today the idea came to fruition.

He said that the completed units are proof that they are a solution to the challenge of lack of affordable housing the country has been grappling with for a long time.

“This is just the beginning. There is a lot of work to do as we saw in the presentation. There is the training of our people that has to go into it, materials that have to be accessed, mostly locally and the sustainability model of all this is self-explanatory,”

“I don’t think we can have any better than this- To have it affordable, sustainable and most of it arrived at through local materials, I think is the best combination we can have,” President Kagame said.

He said that following the pilot phase, the Government of Rwanda will continue to partner with the developer to build as many homes as possible.

“We are going to be good partners. We have been but now even stronger partners we are going to be and if we can move faster, that’s our aim. We should be,”

“On the side of government, we feel we should do whatever is possible within our means to have our people access the kind of affordable houses that are needed in so large numbers,”

Today we saw what is possible, we are going to stick with it,” he said, adding that government institutions will play their part in making sure that there is significant progress in achieving affordable housing.

He promised the investor that he will be available 24 hours for his own input to ensure that the project succeeds.

On his part, Soleman said that there are an estimated 300 million new homes that will be required globally by 2030 and the deficit is concentrated on the Africa continent.

“At ADHI we believe that the only answer to tackle this global shortage is by building affordable, safe and accessible housing that is environmentally friendly and built on sustainably developed land and infrastructure and by locally skilled technicians, using locally produced materials,”

Soleman said Rwanda believed in the idea of building eco-friendly houses which are affordable.
“At ADHI Rwanda, we are convinced that urbanisation is more than just building houses,” he said, adding that they also focus on climate change, adaptation mitigation and resilience in housing rather than looking at it as just a business.

“Our construction method is innovative yet uses proven technologies and materials that, when combined, result in faster, cheaper, stronger, and long-lasting buildings,” he added.

Among other things, he said the housing units suffer minimal impact from the weather, seismic damage, wind and fire, rust, rot, and humidity while local builders have been trained to use the technology.

Soleman commended the Government of Rwanda for believing in the idea and partnering with ADHI to bring it to fruition, which will lead to many Rwandans being able to afford a house. Bwiza Riverside affordable homes project, according to officials, is expected to cost over $100 million....
