This Week Greenovature presents to you another edition of "The Future Climate Dialogue Session" on the Topic: REVALUING WETLANDS FOR CLIMATE CHANGE
With the rise in global temperature and predictions of extreme effects of global warming by the IPCC, there has been an ongoing research on climate mitigation options as ways to reduce carbon and methane gas emissions in the atmosphere.
Based on research, Wetland has proven to be one of the major solutions assessed to provide a natural absorbent effect of these dangerous gases released to protect our environment from exponential increase in global temperatures leading to sea level rise, melting of glaciers, global flooding and several other catastrophic effects of climate change.
Mitsch et al. (2013), environmental scientists have discovered that Wetland ecosystems provide an optimum natural environment for the sequestration and long-term storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere.
With all these excellent benefits, a restoration and expansion of our Wetlands is crucial to winning the war on the catasrphic impacts of climate change on our environment.
