JUST IN: Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, a prominent Ghanaian politician, has filed a GHS10 million defamation suit against Sheikh Mohammed Kamil Samudeen, the first national deputy of the Ahlussunnah Wal Jama’a Muslim group.

Based on video evidence, the cleric is accused of defaming the New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate in the 2024 general election by describing him as "Trumu Trumu" in the run up to the 2024 general election.

Court documents showed that Dr Prempeh is, among other things, seeking a declaration at the Kumasi High Court that the statements made against him were defamatory.

He is also demanding a published retraction and apology from the senior Muslim cleric and a perpetual injunction against the cleric and his associates from making any defamatory remarks against him.

How do you think the case will end???

The initiative forms part of government’s broader effort to strengthen engagement with religious communities across the country.
