After the concert, the members of the band vanished leaving the prolific songwriter and singer to return to Ghana alone.

Most of the members of the band were from Koforidua in Juaben (Eastern Region).

FORMER GFA PRESIDENT KWESI NYANTAKYI TO CONTEST EJISU BY-ELECTION ON NPP TICKET?

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has hinted at his intention to contest the Ejisu by-elections when the Electoral Commission opens up nominations.

Kwesi Nyantakyi said he will be contesting on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Nyantakyi gave the hint in an interview in Kumasi at the introduction of the New Patriotic Party’s Ashanti Regional Campaign team.

“The Ejisu by-election will definitely come on, but the timetable has not been published yet so we don’t know those who want to contest. Since I come from there and I have the right to contest, at the right time, we’ll see what will happen,” he said.

Despite his intention to contest, Mr. Nyantakyi admitted the constituents are still grieving the passing of the incumbent MP and deputy finance minister, John Kumah.

“But at the moment, we are mourning the demise of a very dear son of the constituency. The Member of Parliament is a big loss to the constituency and let’s see what happens after the one week,” Nyantakyi stated.

LOAD-SHEDDING TIMETABLE: ASK THOSE CALLING FOR IT TO BRING IT – ENERGY MINISTER

The Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has stated that the country is not facing ‘dumsor’ (erratic power supply), indicating that individuals calling for a load-shedding timetable should release it themselves.

He said the current power situation is “300 times better” than what was experienced under former President John Mahama in 2015.

“If you are comparing four years, four years, NPP administration is 300 times better than John Mahama,” he stated.

He admitted an erratic power supply, saying, “Nobody has said we haven’t [experienced dumsor]; I am just saying it is far much better than John Mahama ever did”.

The Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) has, amongst other things, called on the power distributor, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), to release a load-shedding timetable to assist businesses in planning effectively.

But the energy minister disagrees. He said, “Ask those who want it [load-shedding timetable] to bring it,” adding that “I haven’t seen any timetable today. The ECG said that there is no timetable coming up.”

ANTI-GAY BILL: ‘VETO THIS DRACONIAN AND HATEFUL PIECE OF LEGISLATION’ – RICHARD BRANSON TELLS AKUFO-ADDO

British billionaire and founder of Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Galactic, Richard Branson, has called on President Akufo-Addo not to sign into law the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill 2024, unanimously passed by Parliament on Wednesday, February 28.

The Chief Executive of Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Galactic described the bill as a “draconian and hateful piece of legislation”, urging the President to veto it.

Branson, in an open letter dated March 25 shared on LinkedIn, emphasised that “not only is the bill a clear violation of fundamental human rights, it also carries the risk of disastrous economic consequences for Ghana”, citing the finance minister’s report to President Akufo-Addo.

He wrote, “Today, I join many other human rights advocates in Africa and around the world in calling on the President to veto this draconian and hateful piece of legislation.”

“It’s been alarming to see aggressive LGBTQ+ discrimination sweep across the African continent.

“Criminalising a person’s identity legitimises discrimination and corrodes dignity. Families, businesses, societies, and countries prosper when people have the freedom to be themselves. Why would we ever deny this?” portions of the open letter read.
