It is a great pleasure for me, as president of WBC, to present with our full support the web page of the African Boxing Union, affiliated to our organization since 1974 and from where many outstanding boxers and champions have flourished.

I congratulate the ABU president Mr Houcine Houichi, from Tunisia, the country in which I was elected for the first time in 1975, its vice president Dr. Peter Ngatane, from South Africa, and the ABU Secretary General Celestino Mindra, as well as the presidents of the national boxing federations, for starting this historical internet web page, where we will find all information about boxing in Africa.

The African Boxing Union (ABU) is committed to the growth and development of professional boxing across Africa. We strive to provide a platform where African boxers can compete at the highest level and gain recognition both locally and internationally. Through our rigorous standards, fair regulations, and support of emerging talents, we aim to uplift the sport and inspire the next generation of African champions.

Our history
Founded in 1973, the ABU has been a cornerstone in the development of African boxing. Over the decades, we have sanctioned countless bouts and championship matches, creating opportunities for African boxers to showcase their skills and earn their place in the annals of boxing history. Our affiliation with the World Boxing Council (WBC) allows us to offer our champions a pathway to global recognition.
