A big congratulations to alumna Chris Bush for being chosen in The Stage 100's Independent Creatives - an amazing achievement 🎉

Chris opened 2024 by becoming the first British artist to win the Hermitage Major Theater Award, announcing she would use the $35,000 prize to develop a play inspired by Orlando, Virginia Woolf’s 1928 rumination on gender.

Standing at the Sky’s Edge, for which Chris wrote the book, made its West End transfer, while an adaptation of A Doll’s House at Sheffield Theatres aimed to, in the playwright’s own words, “blow the dust off” the original Ibsen. Seeing out the year with her first panto, Robin Hood and the Christmas Heist at Kingston’s Rose Theatre, Chris remains one of the country’s most exciting playwrights and a vocal advocate for writers in the industry!

This presentation introduces Enhanced Audio Description (EAD) and its application to film and television 📽️

EAD is an alternative to Audio Description. It moves away from the reliance on words and voices to provide descriptions and instead uses sound design (sound effects, ambiences), audio spatialisation and first person description integrated into the film and television production.

This is a hybrid event, with options to attend in person or online! There will be refreshments available from 6.30pm with the talk starting at 7pm.

This event is part of York Disability Week 2024 and the work presented is possible thanks to funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council!
