Massive thanks to Heidi from for some amazing photos at ! A week ago and we were starting to pack up, doesn't feel like my feet have touched the ground since. I couldn't have asked for a better way to start self employment than the be at such a big event with so many people who've had a massive impact on my life. Look out for more The Forge stuff happening over the next 12 months! http://bit.ly/2HJ2HBQ

I love taking photos, but sometimes moments are meant to be enjoyed, not analysed and captured. This week, despite hosting duties taking up large chunks of my time and most of my meagre brain capacity I've got to spend time with some amazing friends, new and old. And every moment of it has been enjoyed. Thank you my friends for being great people. http://bit.ly/2HkRjgL

Calluses disappeared over the last few months but they'll soon return. There's something I like about the honesty of a callus, you can't fake it, you can't buy it, you have to earn it. And if you stop, they disappear. http://bit.ly/2PG2mDJ

Got called in to assist with the axe and wood workshop at The Forge yesterday and managed to pop over today to grab some footage for an upcoming video. Couldn't resist snapping a shot of one of the students axes in use. I love that with these classes the story doesn't end with just making an axe. http://bit.ly/2GtCmHh

Playing around with some Sculpt Nouveu recently and it seems like it works quite nicely on my old Opinel. This was with very poor surface prep and a single application, I'll definetly be playing with this more in the future. Even included my hands in the shot just for ! http://bit.ly/2v3wVcR

It's that guy I am! As part of getting myself ready for going full time my friend is helping me build a website (he's a very talented chap and a right gent to boot) so I needed some photos of me to go on there.. I don't have many, I'm much happier behind the lens. Luckily another friend in the village is getting back into photography and kindly offered to come take some photos and do her best to make me look good, considering what she had to work with, I'd say she did damn well! Still got to get a few more photos sorted but it's quite nice having some pictures of me that aren't hugging a random friend, taken with a front facing phone camera after too many ciders! http://bit.ly/2Kr2pnM

Nothing fancy. First time I've had the forge lit since reshuffling the layout, and I finished a commission for a lady in the village, she'd seen a rake I'd made for the local pub and wanted something similar. By no means anything special but I'm reasonable happy with the result, and very happy the first fire after the reshuffle was earning money. There's a couple tweaks to my workshop I still want to make and another week or two of helping Alex getting the other workshop sorted and then it's full steam ahead for hitting metal. It's going to be a REALLY good year. http://bit.ly/2GCXAo5

A little throwback Thursday to the Hudson bay pattern axe I made for Brett and Jimmy last year. Hoping to make many, many more this year, and with the tuition I'm lucky enough to get from Alex and Joe I'm confident that each one will be an improvement on the last! Also really looking forward to going back out to New York later this year with them to do an axe making class at Jimmy's, partly because it's such a great place to be but mostly because Taylor makes such good breakfast eggs!! (I like food) http://bit.ly/2GejzlV

Got to meet Jacob from today when I popped over to see Alex. Jacob had this set of tongs with him, which Alex beat me to purchasing so I'm going to have to order a new set from Jacob asap. If you're in the market for some new tongs check out Jacobs Insta. http://bit.ly/2DUckNy

I've been doing some reorganising in the workshop, trying to get things laid out a bit more efficiently, when I was moving the workbench I stumbled across this beaut that I'd almost forgotten about! I had intended on doing a quick "restoration" on it just to be able to get it back into service but it's just been living under the workbench collecting dust. Once I've finished putting everything back I'll soak it with WD40 and leave it on top of the bench, give it a sq**rt of WD40 every time I'm in there and a few hammer taps until I can get it moving, much like did with one of his Printing presses he got a while back. Once it's back to service I'll either find it a place to live on TOP of the bench or maybe consider selling it on... maybe. http://bit.ly/2S3orj9

I've spent a couple days ill this week so was eager to get down the workshop today before I go back on shift despite the cold. This little scrapwood fire certainly isn't going to heat the whole workshop but it's amazing the difference (even just psychological) it makes having one going. http://bit.ly/2AuaQHG

All with their new owners now! I was slightly worried JDH's wasn't going to turn up for a while... It was surprisingly difficult to capture these together, but they represent a few firsts, my first auction, my first given patreon reward, my first te****le and... well nowhere near my first maker trade, but an enjoyable one none the less. Hopefully be back to a normal posting schedule soon. https://ift.tt/2rGDrEF
