Want to delve deeper into the Legend of King Arthur? 👑

On Saturday 18 March, we're hosting an afternoon of talks on King Arthur and the Pre-Raphaelites.

Our own Sarah Waters will discuss some of the most impressive (certainly the largest) works in the exhibition, Burne-Jones and William Morris' Holy Grail Tapestries, in her talk titled Burne-Jones and the Holy Grail Tapestries: A Quest for Design.

Then, Steve Matthews of Bookcase Carlisle will explore Carlisle as the setting for more stories about King Arthur than any other city in his talk King Arthur Lives in Merrie Carlisle (based on his book of the same name).

The event takes place 1-3pm. Tickets are £10 or £8 for Tullie Members. Book here: https://tulliehouse.digitickets.co.uk/event-tickets/46250

Seraphim's latest work is being offered free of charge. Please read on:

Alastair worked with Stanley Shepherd for more than 20 years. In 2009 Spire Books published their book "The Stained Glass of A.W.N. Pugin", to favourable reviews, although much research and photography remained still to be done. Stanley planned a major overhaul of their book to include all of his new research and Alastair's additional photography and spent another 10 years to produce an extremely important previously unseen body of work, offering an insight into Pugin’s thinking about stained glass and its colouring.

The majority of corrections to the text had been made and Stanley had chosen what still needed to be photographed when, sadly, he died. His brother, Arnold Shepherd, was keen for Stanley’s research not to have been in vain. On the discovery of Stanley's final notes it was decided that the books would be produced in the form of a website allowing Stanley’s scholarship to be accessible, without charge, to all with an interest in Pugin stained glass.

To access The Stained Glass of A.W.N. Pugin please click the link below. This will provide over 700 printable pages of research and photography completely free of charge. More photographs hope to be added in the future if funding allows.
