A lot of discussion in schools & amongst parents following on from Channel 4 program Swiped: The School that Banned Phones last night.

A reminder about the funded workshops that I deliver for Positive Social. I've now delivered to over 1,000 young people and parents.

I'm going to share some of the comments and thoughts from those sessions over the next few weeks. In the meantime if you know of any school that would like to take advantage of the funded workshops, get in touch!

Read this article & educate yourself on how offenders "befriend" and exploit young people online. It's terrifying. I'm working with Positive Social delivering sessions for young people. There is also parent sessions available (an online session in November) which are just as important. If you ever have questions, please reach out.

I'm torn 🤷🏼‍♀️

Last week, this one was 11, he's hugely excited as he 'sort of knew' he'd get a phone 🤦🏼‍♀️

He's in Year 6, getting more independent AND his sister got one at 11.

I'm torn because I know that a phone is a gateway to another 'unseen' world BUT I also want to stay in touch with him & be able to get to him quickly if needs be.

What have I done to ensure he stays as safe as possible?

☑️Set up the phone before I gave it to him
☑️Had a conversation advising him he won't be using social media until older
☑️Uninstalled apps such as TikTok and Instagram
☑️Put boundaries such as days for gaming (no Monday-Thursday), in person socialising takes priority (i.e. not taking part with friends as gaming instead)
☑️Set up games he will be using, safely
☑️Set up phone with parenting restrictions; i.e his real age on there not fake D.O.B.
☑️Agreed that a phone is a privilege that can be taken away

I'll also be delivering a Positive Social session to him and his classmates this week!

A lovely day yesterday, spent a couple of hours with Penny Burgess Photography updating headshots and, as I had my 2 extras in tow, she kindly did some shots of them too. Guess what colour I wore for my headshots 🟩💚🟢

Really recommend Penny she has a wonderful knack of putting you (and nervous teenagers) at ease & getting you smiling, can't wait to see the pics!

We also took the opportunity to visit Lichfield Cathedral which is beautiful!

It's World Social Media Day! I'm working with Positive Social on a mission to let as many young people as possible know how to be online safely, how their behaviour online affects others & the impact of what they post online today may have on their future selves.

Throwback to last Thursday! I spent the day at Our Lady's Catholic Primary School, Tile Cross, delivering Positive Social sessions to Years 5&6. The first picture is my favourite! These sessions are fun as well as educational.

As you can see from the commitments made in the last pictures, the children ALL come away with something that they will do to improve their use of social media/online platforms.

I also delivered a workshop for parents where we had interesting discussions about how their children can be online & be as safe as possible AND how they can talk about being online with their children without being "preachy".
