It is a sad day today with the news of the passing of Derek Acorah, our thoughts are with Gwen, his family and his friends at this sad time.
He was featured in the very first issue of Haunted (2009), simply titled "a tribute to the legend that be..." we had the pleasure of meeting him at a Haunted Happenings event many moons ago (2010) and we have interviewed him twice for the magazine (2011 & 2017) where he was, both times, frank and honest in his answers to our questions.
He wasn't our celebrity mate, our best buddy, as some paranormal individuals will now be saying and claiming, what he was, in fact what he still is, is a paranormal legend who we had the pleasure of knowing and whose legacy will live on and on.
Take away all the paranormal nonsense and silliness that happens in this world of the paranormal social media these days, we all have people who don't care for us, don't like us, don't like what the person does or just generally believes everything that's ever said or written about people, be it positive or negative. It's the nature of the beast, sadly. No one in the paranormal is devoid of criticism as people just simply have nothing better to do sometimes. Like many paranormal types Derek had his fair share of this but he continued to love the paranormal, live the paranormal, ignore the idiots and bring joy, happiness and sometimes closure to alot of people.
Like it, hate it, love it, loathe it, Most Haunted was in its pomp and at its finest when Derek was part of it, those early years were groundbreaking, were different to anything else and probably helped a lot of people get more interested and involved in the paranormal today.
You'll hear many tributes from many individuals, teams and groups now saying what a good and great man he was and we can only speak from our own experiences of him, he was charming, frank, down to earth, a gentleman, someone you could have a laugh with and there was a respect for the magazine too, and as we said at the start, today is a sad day and our thoughts and best wishes go out to Gwen, his family and friends.
RIP Derek Acorah, you will be sadly missed BUT not forgotten.
*Haunted Magazine issue 25 will be dedicated to Derek and a portion of each sale will be going to Derek and Gwen's favourite charity - Pathfinder Dogs.
