The top 3 things to stress consultants out:
1. Too much work (juggling multiple clients, different projects and stakeholders etc.)
2. Not enough work (too much time on the bench can feel š¬)
3. Wrong type of work (you're placed into a role that just doesn't fit your skillset, you feel like you're faking it and yet you know you could add SO much value in the right role)
What would you add to the list?
Would a podcast episode taking a deep dive into these be helpful?

Management Consulting is inherently stressful
Manamgement Consulting is inherently stressful!
But that's ok.
We just need to learn to navigate the challenges and know when to roll your sleeves up and just get stuff done and when to start looking into "how did we get here?" and "What went wrong?".
Sometimes it's hard to get perspective because our sympathetic nervous system (active when we're stressed) isn't made for perspective - it's all about the details!
To get perspective we need to activate our parasympathetic nervous system.
And if you want a my best tips and techniques in your toolkit so that you can get perspective when you need it simply write "toolkit" in the comments below.

You canāt think yourself calm: What happens when you tell yourself to calm down? Or better still when someone else tells you to calm down?
I know, it doesn't work right?!
However, we can use the physical body to calm the mind.
There are many ways to do this and that's what episode 18 is all about.
I share ways you too can regulate your nervous system and some of the scientific theory behind how this works. Most importantly I give some hands-on experiences of this to try out as you listen.

Want to know how to use your body to change your mind and emotions?
Listen to my latest podcast episode it's called Unlock Instant Calm: How to use the body to calm the mind.
The WHO define burnout as a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It is characterized by three dimensions:
- feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion;
- increased mental distance from oneās job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one's job; and
- reduced professional efficacy.
I begin to explain what these mean in this video and provided more details in my podcast this week (episode no. 17) - DM me if you'd like a link.
I really enjoyed my chat with Daniel Goodstein & Carlos Alvarenga. Make sure you catch the recording of The Digital Leader Show for the full conversation.
Coincidentally I covered the definition and symptoms of burnout in a short 7 min episode in my own podcast this week (episode 17) - DM me for more details.

Talking about Corporate Burnout
Burnout Symptoms
Did you know that there are 3 dimensions to burnout?
The area most people think about is exhaustion: physical, mental and emotional.
The areas that are less talked about are cynicism and a reduced sense of efficacy.
Cynicism is negativity. This can show up as criticism but also in a loss of enjoyment for things that you once loved and withdrawal.
The reduced sense of efficacy is feeling like the task is too big, itās impossible, youāre not making a difference any more or you canāt make a difference.
In todayās mini episode on my podcast I am answering questions like:
What does burnout feel like?
What does burnout look like?
Itās Episode 17: āBurnout mini-series: What does burnout look & feel like?ā

Weāve touched on these topics in earlier episodes but today Iāve condensed the key points into just 10 minutes so you have a go-to to answer these questions.

I wanted to try journaling but I was worried I'd do it wrong.
Do I get the benefits if I do it wrong?
Whatās the difference between journaling and other types of writing?
Are there certain things unique to journaling?
Perhaps this is you too?
By the end of this weekās podcast episode (#012) we will have cleared up all these questions and you will be confident in using this powerful tool to support your wellbeing.
Some of the more obvious benefits of journaling include a boost in your mindfulness, memory and communication skills. Other studies have linked journaling to better sleep, a stronger immune system, more self-confidence and a higher I.Q.
Iāve spoken to burnout survivors who report that journaling was a key tool in their recovery. And I have recently reflected upon which of my wellbeing practices I would least like to give up: Journaling is the one that helps me deeply understand myself and my emotions and gives me a private avenue to let it all go, allowing me to show up as the best version of myself, even when times are tough - and lately my family and I have been having some pretty tough times.
In todayās episode I give you the lowdown on how to journal and describe 5 ways you can get started with journaling. Thereās also a free download with this episode to help guide and motivate you with your new journaling habit.
In the words of Tim Ferris:
āI donāt journal to ābe productive.ā I donāt do it to find great ideas or to put down prose I can later publish. The pages arenāt intended for anyone but me. Itās the most cost-effective therapy Iāve ever found.ā
Happy journaling everyone
