He is aboard ship just before the invasion of Sicily in 1943
I asked him once why he never complained about anything,
He said after a moments thought “ after 10 nights of constant combat in Syracuse as we sailed away from that harbour and looked back at bombs raining down on our comrades I swore I would never complain about anything ever again “ this I have never forgotten, for this and many other things I thank you Dad .
