Happy Holidays From Northern Heart
Happy Holidays from us at Northern Heart, we hope you've all had a wonderful year and the festive season brings plenty of joy!
๐
This little video was made by Chloe Welsby, who is working with us over the next few months thanks to a work experience placement set up by Curious Minds.
Chloe will be helping out with some social media and video content creation.
This being her first piece of work for us.
Hasn't she done a great job!
We'll see you all in 2025
Behind the scenes with Northern Heart
We always love screening a 'Behind-the-scenes" along with the main film at any event.
It's always pleasing to see the awe and appreciation on audience's faces when they get to see all the hard work and professionalism that goes into filmmaking.
Last week was charity Key Unlocking Futures' 30th anniversary event where a new short online commercial was screened for the first time.
Why is it so special?
Because this has been a wonderful collaboration between our Northern Heart Doc Fund graduate Matthew Reese, Media Trust, Santander UK Foundation and Northern Heart.
Natasha has done an amazing job facilitating this collaboration, putting Matty forward to direct what would be his first professional directing opportunity.
Also, the entire production was run by a young team of filmmakers!
Seen here doing a truly excellent job!

Richard Ashcroft Homecoming
A huge highlight for us this year was working with the one and only Richard Ashcroft during his two Homecoming gigs in Wigan.
We were tasked to create Richard's opening film, just ahead of him taking the stage in front of over 25,000 people.
Needless to say the fans loved it, and we can't wait to release the full video very soon.

Richard Ashcroft on Wigan
Richard's a believer!
On the run up to his #Homecoming gig this weekend, It's great to hear Richard Ashcroft express these feelings towards #Wigan and it's potential to be a creative hub for the North West.
And you know what?
We couldn't agree more!
๐ธ
We've loved every minute putting together Richard's intro film for these two emotional gigs back in his hometown.
The hard work is now over, it's time for us to relax a bit and enjoy the music.
Like what we do? Why not get in touch and let's have a chat.

It's finished!
We're all ready for the weekend.
It's been a pleasure working on this special project for Britpop icon Richard Ashcroft for his emotional "Homecoming" gigs in Wigan this weekend.
A big thanks to Mike Nixon (www.mikenixon.co.uk) for cutting this absolute belter of a short film together, it's a celebration of Richard's work in music and the unique history & heritage of Wigan.
If you love your Northern Soul, Wigan Casino and Uncle Joe's then you'll not want to miss this! The crowd are going to love it.
As a Wigan based company it's been lovely working on such a high profile project so close to our home.
Anyone have tickets?
We'll see you there ๐ต ๐ธ ๐ถ

Those with eagle eyes may have noticed that Northern Heart has gone through a slight rebrand this year, and it's all thanks to the wonderful talents of Jodi Fox at #StudioZenko.
It's been a really long journey of exploration, questioning who we are and who we are here for. Without such expert guidance from Jodi we could have gotten quite lost.
Why the change?
We wanted to streamline the image of Northern Heart and our services to help make it easier for potential collaborators and clients to decide if we're a good fit.
Northern Heart began because the founders, Scott Bradley (Northern Heart) & Natasha Hawthornthwaite, wanted to work with brands, charities, NGOs and Not-For-Profits to help them tell stories in an authentic, impactful way.
Northern Heart is here for those who want to make films with proper stories about real people and their lived experiences, and to be emotionally moved by them.
Thanks to Jodi our new branding conveys our values and messaging perfectly.
Also, a bit thanks to Creative UK for supporting our refreshed business plan, which acted as a blueprint for this new look.

Before Northern Heart started working on this film with Historic England we had never heard of Grindcore before... or The Mermaid pub!
The Mermaid pub in Birmingham, Sparkhill birthed Grindcore in the 80s, hosting punk, metal gigs with hand drawn flyers and cheap all dayers. Also serving a scrumpy that no one actually knows what was in it!
Now closed, it's legacy lives on through the Home of Metal, a special project supported by Historic Englandโs Everyday Heritage Grants, that Celebrate Working Class Histories.
The final cut isn't far off and we can't wait to see the film go public.
At Northern Heart we create a lot films that focus on people's histories, and that can take shape in many different ways.

It's always so fulfilling to see another happy client โค๏ธ
Working with The Children's Family Trust on this short online ad was a really special experience for us.
We all really wanted to create something that would help the charity raise awareness of fostering in the deaf and hearing loss community, and attract potential candidates that have the potential to foster, but do not necessarily โfitโ the typical mould of a foster carer.
A unique challenge, but one we hope we raised to.
Judging by the feedback we did just that!

It's not often we give you a sneaky behind the scenes look into what we get up to when out shooting documentaries.
But, thanks to our kind assistant for the day, Chim'Di Ugada, we've been able to put this short reel together while we were out in Sheffield creating a special documentary for Historic England.
The doc focuses on Gwenda's Garage, an all female garage that was around in the 80's, run by a band of incredible women fighting for equal rights.
Natasha felt really close to this story and she's done a wonderful job directing the film.
Hopefully we'll get to show the final doc really soon!
Stay tuned ๐ฝ
