It was my astonishing good fortune to witness PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING performing the whole of their 'Every Valley' album at Durham Cathedral last week, accompanied by the NASUWT Riverside Brass Band and the Felling Male Voice Choir. Extraordinary stuff in a truly extraordinary setting.

I'll be playing their new single on my show which goes out this Sunday (July 14) on Mixcloud.

“As each new album’s come out, it’s landed with a different generation, I think, as well as a lot of the old fans as well. It’s the strangest thing but I love the way its going, it’s a real adventure, we don’t know where its going to go..”

Kavus Torabi, guitarist, singer and frontman for Gong, talks frankly about the way the age of their audience has come down as the band’s new material begins to attract a new younger audience.

In the wake of their last critically-acclaimed album ‘Unending Ascending’, Kavus also announces the start of work on a new Gong album.

Couldn’t stay for the whole set, but the Emerald Dawn were making all the right noises tonight at Trillions in Newcastle. Hauntingly beautiful stuff and it’s clear why they’ve been chosen to headline the Soundle Festival this year.

If you have tickets, then you’re in for a treat!

Absolutely stunning set tonight from EBB, these guys just keep getting better and better! A vibrant and mature performance from people who clearly love what they do.

They’ve stepped in to cover for Long Earth who have been forced to cancel their appearance at Soundle -worth the price of the ticket alone!

Excited! Off to see The Emerald Dawn at Trillions in Newcastle tonight, their second attempt at playing on Tyneside after their last northern tour was unavoidably postponed.

So, lots of anticipation then!

Just recorded a fascinating interview with Gong frontman Kavus Torabi about his much-talked-about solo album 'The Banishing', about his recent performance at the Roadburn Festival in Holland, previewed his multiple slots at this year's Glastonbury Festival, and explored the continuing evolvution of Gong.

You can hear it all in the June edition of Prog On The Tyne, which is due to drop on Mixcloud soon - you won't want to miss it!

I’m taking a step back from my monthly 2-hour show on Eternal Fusion Radio.

The station is scaling back at the moment and talking about taking a hiatus over the Summer - so it’s time to wish them bon voyage and head off for pastures new!

I’ll be exploring other options in the coming months but you’ll still be able to listen to Prog On The Tyne each and every month as I’ll be returning to my usual monthly 60-minute show on Mixcloud.

Today's soundtrack to my gym session was... 'Kites' by This Winter Machine.

Helluva album and the guitar solo work on The Storm (Part 1) is utterly, utterly sublime. So good in fact that I think I exercised a little longer than intended!

I’m hoping to interview the musical dynamo that is the ever-busy Kavus Torabi of Gong and The Utopia Strong (and much else besides) for a forthcoming show - so I thought I’d do a bit of research!

Medical Grade Music is a fascinating insight into how two extraordinary blokes came together over a love of music from the more obscure end of the spectrum. And although a double-headed autobiography might seem a little odd, it definitely works!

Well worth a read.

I was deeply fortunate to catch Gong in full flight at Newcastle University last week as part of their joint tour with the equally brilliant Ozric Tentacles. It was an amazing gig, but the big news is that I think I’ve persuaded Gong’s Kavus Torabi to come on a future show and talk about his music!
