It was my astonishing good fortune to witness PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING performing the whole of their 'Every Valley' album at Durham Cathedral last week, accompanied by the NASUWT Riverside Brass Band and the Felling Male Voice Choir. Extraordinary stuff in a truly extraordinary setting.

I'll be playing their new single on my show which goes out this Sunday (July 14) on Mixcloud.

Don't miss it!

Dive into the latest edition of Prog On The Tyne, sixty minutes of some of the best international progressive rock on the planet.

In this month’s edition, we talk to Gong frontman Kavus Torabi about Gong audiences and why they are getting younger, where the band is going and what else he’s been up to. Plus we play the latest single from David Gilmour, take a dive into the world of Norwegian progressive rock, and explore what Mike Oldfield was up to 50 years ago.

And in a brand new regular feature, we’ll be listing more than 20 prog rock concerts and festivals taking place around the country in this month’s UK Gig Guide.

“As each new album’s come out, it’s landed with a different generation, I think, as well as a lot of the old fans as well. It’s the strangest thing but I love the way its going, it’s a real adventure, we don’t know where its going to go..”

Kavus Torabi, guitarist, singer and frontman for Gong, talks frankly about the way the age of their audience has come down as the band’s new material begins to attract a new younger audience.

In the wake of their last critically-acclaimed album ‘Unending Ascending’, Kavus also announces the start of work on a new Gong album.

Hear the interview in full on the next issue of Prog On The Tyne, available in Mixcloud from this Sunday.

Couldn’t stay for the whole set, but the Emerald Dawn were making all the right noises tonight at Trillions in Newcastle. Hauntingly beautiful stuff and it’s clear why they’ve been chosen to headline the Soundle Festival this year.

Absolutely stunning set tonight from EBB, these guys just keep getting better and better! A vibrant and mature performance from people who clearly love what they do.

They’ve stepped in to cover for Long Earth who have been forced to cancel their appearance at Soundle -worth the price of the ticket alone!

Excited! Off to see The Emerald Dawn at Trillions in Newcastle tonight, their second attempt at playing on Tyneside after their last northern tour was unavoidably postponed.

So, lots of anticipation then!

Hoping to grab a few words with the band before the gig- so watch out for an interview in a future edition of Prog On The Tyne.

You can hear it all in the June edition of Prog On The Tyne, which is due to drop on Mixcloud soon - you won't want to miss it!

I’m hoping to interview the musical dynamo that is the ever-busy Kavus Torabi of Gong and The Utopia Strong (and much else besides) for a forthcoming show - so I thought I’d do a bit of research!

Medical Grade Music is a fascinating insight into how two extraordinary blokes came together over a love of music from the more obscure end of the spectrum. And although a double-headed autobiography might seem a little odd, it definitely works!

Well worth a read.

I was deeply fortunate to catch Gong in full flight at Newcastle University last week as part of their joint tour with the equally brilliant Ozric Tentacles. It was an amazing gig, but the big news is that I think I’ve persuaded Gong’s Kavus Torabi to come on a future show and talk about his music!

Stay tuned…!

Hmmm. Starting to think about the playlist for my next show on March 1st...

Something a friend said got me thinking about the roots of progressive rock, so I'll be dipping into the Canterbury Scene in the next show with three tracks from three of the bands most associated with it. Should be fun!

My next show on Eternal Fusion Radio will be at 8pm on Friday March 1st. Great way to start the weekend... and a new month.
