A very well organised event by Richardsons of Whitehaven and Whitehaven Town Council commemorating 80 years since the D Day landings in Normandy on 6th June 1944.

An exhibition of photos and history has been on display this week. Tonight Town Crier Marc Goodwin and Mayor of Whitehaven Graham Roberts lead speeches to commemorate the occasion.

Regimental Sergeant Major Aaron Butterworth from 26 Royal Engineer Regiment then lit the beacon.

St Nicholas’ Tower is now illuminated in Red, White and Blue.

A very well planned event to commemorate such a huge event in history.

🎾 Tennis 🎾

Anyone interested in playing tennis, either for the first time, wanting to start back up again, moved to the area, or just simply wants to play, please get in touch with our page or simply come along to our 2 free events we have running this season. We offer weekly social sessions for members and also competitive league play and tournaments.

The club has moved venue to St Benedict's School (Campus Whitehaven) for the new 2024 season, and we will be offering Adult/Junior Coaching through our new LTA Accredited Coach throughout the season, along with monthly in club tournaments, and also monthly Cardio Tennis sessions for those who want some fitness with a tennis twist.

Update from Cumbria Police.

Police can confirm a man has been arrested on suspicion of malicious communications following concerns in west Cumbria today in relation to a man allegedly with access to a firearm.
While enquiries are still underway, there is no indication at this point that the individual ever had access to a firearm.
There is no threat to the public.
Officers will be speaking to those organisations affected by this incident to offer reassurance.
