I’m reminiscing on our day in Pisa because tomorrow (Friday) night at 6pm our La Spezia port day vlog will be live! We created our own self-guided tour to navigate the Italian public transport system: Intercity Railway, we also saved a small fortune by doing it this way and not paying for a guided tour!

It feels like forever ago we were on we had such a good time and all LOVED the Italian ports, La Spezia was just 1 of 3 Italian stops we did!

We’ve been home over a week already! There’s a possibility I came home with Covid, after being back I felt wiped (nothing to do with late nights 🙈) and I felt yuck (nothing to do with the drinks package 🙈😂) and have spent the last week catching back up with emails, work, sleep, rest etc. Feeling much better now and definitely reminiscing back on our honestly wonderful cruise with the cruise wasn’t without problems, I’ll share all that in the vlogs.

✨🚢 date nights 🚢✨

Our last date night before this cruise was January (yes I know, it’s bad 🙈) time just goes so quick and we do spend almost all our time together between living together, working together etc but we hadn’t actually realised it had been so long since we had some quality date night time.

One of my favourite things about cruising has to be the opportunities for date nights. We had so much adult time once the kids only wanted to go to kids club and got to enjoy a few meals just the two of us. It was golden sunset heaven 😍

What’s your favourite thing about cruising? If you haven’t cruised before, would you consider it?

✨🚢 explorer of the seas 🚢✨

On our last port day in Athens we were docked next to Royal Caribbeans Explorer Of The Seas, I squealed with excitement when I saw it because I lived and worked onboard this ship back in 2009 and haven’t seen it since!

I have amazing memories of this ship, it was my 2nd favourite ship I worked on (a close second to Carnival Cruise Line’s Valor which will forever hold a very special place in my heart ❤️) so it was amazing to see it again and be able to show Carl and the boys.

🇬🇷✨ athens ✨🇬🇷

We had a lovely few days in Greece, and we got to spend the day in Athens so of course we made the most of it and visited the Acropolis site and saw the Parthenon!

We were the very first off the ship at bang on 7am but we’re still late for our 8am tickets into the acropolis. (We used the metro but I’d highly recommend an Uber straight from the ship as it wasn’t expensive, 13€ to 21€ depending on traffic) and boy were we glad to have done it earlier before the mass crowds. The view from up there is stunning and honestly was probably my favourite part of the day! We took lush photos and even though it was cooler, down to a balmy 27C, with the raging humidity it was very hard work so another great reason for discovering it earlier in the morning!

I’m actually writing this to you from my bed at home now, we went straight from Athens into our last formal night on P&O Azura and then a final sea day before disembarking at 7.20am this morning for our flight home from Malta. What a trip. It was fabulous, we all had a great time and I can’t wait to begin sharing it with you once I’ve 1) finished the Walt Disney World vlog series and 2) sorted alllllll the cruise footage from this trip!

✨ship life ✨

Thought I’d share some ship life snaps! 🚢
We’ve been having a marvellous time onboard P&O Cruises Azura, we’ve eaten a metric ton and drank a similar amount, we’ve been onboard now 11 nights of 14 already! 🍸
We’ve had 3 celebration nights so far (P&O’s version of formal nights where everyone gets dressed up posh for the night) and had plenty of relaxed evenings. 👗
We’ve tried 3 of the signature restaurants, all delicious, have swam umpteen times in the pool! 🍽️
We’ve danced til late on open deck during the silent disco’s and played music trivia quiz’s almost everyday round the pool. 💃🏼
We now struggle to get the kids out of kids club and we’re not ready for the cruise to be over. 🥺

✨🇬🇷 welcome to greece 🇬🇷✨

We now have 4 days in Greece! It’s the boys first time (new country for them both) and our first stop was Chania in Crete (pronounced Haah-nee-ah). We actually docked about 10 mins down the road at Souda Bay then jumped on the bus to get into town. 🚎

Chania was really pretty with cute quirky streets and lots of shopping, a beautiful harbour with restaurants all around it. We walked the ten min walk onwards to Kertos Beach for a swim, sunbathe and some gorgeous lunch! 🥗 ⛱️

Its more of a one and done port to stop in for us but we really did have a lovely day ❤️🚢

✨🇲🇹 malta 🇲🇹✨

Wow do you have our hearts Malta, we all LOVED you! We spent the morning exploring beautiful Valletta before we jumped on an open top bus (🥵🔥☀️) and headed to Mdina for a walk around.

Mdina is a beautiful walled city and acted as entrance to Kings Landing in Game Of Thrones! I can’t tell you how amazingly stunning Mdina is, we loved Valletta but Mdina was something else.

✨🇮🇹 naples & pompeii 🇮🇹✨

We braved public transport again and saved as a family of 13 a whacking £1000 by doing this vs doing a shore excursion! We docked in Naples and after a very scary announcement about the dangers of Napoli (most of which I’d heard before) we braved the train and it was only €3.30 each, of course I’ve vlogged it again for you because was hot and challenging but totally worth it!

Pompeii was hundred times bigger than I expected it to be, it was fascinating and parts of it were really sad. We spent a good few hours or so there exploring. The kids will all be learning about pompeii soon so we’re home they remember this day well!

PS that last photo…. “Henry don’t look at it, no just look at me and smile!” He thankfully did not read it, but we did, and it was an hilarious find at the top of the Pompeii ruins 🤣

Day 4 of our cruise was another port, this time we were back in Italy in Civitavecchia! Its about 90 mins out of Rome but we decided you can’t see Rome in a day (and most of us have been before) so we wondered the town, did some shopping, had some local beers and then went back to the ship for another glorious late afternoon trying to stay cool in the pool.

Weather wise it’s been glorious sunshine everyday, it’s high 30’s most of the time so very hot but we’re all@coping well with cooling towels, handheld fans, bottled water to drink and of course hats and sunglasses!

After the craziness of Pisa, yesterday we took it much easier on the stunning island of Corsica, France! We docked in Calvi, none of us had any idea what to expect (see more in stories) but we had a lovely day at the beach. ☀️⛱️

We bought beers, baguettes, cheese and ham from a local supermarket and saved a fortune on lunch and beach drinks! We all loved Calvi and would absolutely return to Corsica. We even saw a family of humpback whales during Sailaway, no photos, only videos on the camera so you’ll have to wait until the cruise vlogs to see that! 🐋🚢

Today we docked in La Spezia and braved public transport all the way to the Leaning Tower of Pisa! No guided tours for us, just:

We’re now headed back to Azura 🚢 for a well deserved dip in the pool 🏊‍♀️💦

We’re beyond ready for the next 2 weeks with our family onboard Azura 🤩 there’s 13 of us sailing around the Med to some beautiful ports!

We flew this morning on chartered flight from Bristol to Malta and I’m in love with Malta already, it is STUNNING.
