Thanks for all the love for the new Madder Rose Band album.
Saw this recently - it's now 30 years since their debut album Bring It Down was released, and was deemed 8th best album in the Melody Maker End Of Year list 1993 (ahead of other personal highlights Aphex Twin, PJ Harvey, Seefeel and Nirvana). Plus Swim was 11th on the singles chart (photos by Nothingelseon)

Hydromedusae is the project of my dear friend Jessica Bailiff & I. We are more than happy that the wonderful Trome Records is releasing our debutalbum today 🌹

Some kind words of the label: "Hydromedusae is the new project of long-time friends and collaborators Jessica Bailiff and Annelies Monseré. Their debut self-titled LP as Hydromedusae was patiently sketched through years and over seas, and comprises of eight minimal songs that weave darkly hypnotic melodies with drone-folk structures. On some songs the repeating vocal patterns, whispered, close-by and offset by distant guitar, create an diaphanous fog. Other tracks are harder edged, with garish keyboards and distortion. Drones form the basis on most compositions; organ, bass pulses or sustained guitar acting as a backdrop to monophonic vocals, with cello, piano and percussion drifting in and out of range."

The self-titled debut album by Hydromedusae is now available for pre-order, to be released next month.

This new drone-folk project featuring Annelies Monseré and Jessica Bailiff acts as a meeting point for two revered solo artists who have crafted a unique sound. Eight hypnotic songs, at once ethereal then hard-edged, with minimal arrangements of guitar, keyboards, cello, piano and percussion. Mastered by Fraser McGowan.

The LP, pressed on heavyweight black vinyl and limited to 200 copies, is housed in individually screen-printed sleeves by Wim Lecluyse.

This second pressing CD, limited to 100, is housed in a gatefold sleeve with artwork featuring 4 paintings by Billy Coté.

This 2020 album heralded the return after 20 years of an acclaimed group of artists with nine ‘pretty songs about death, with noise’. The first pressing sold out quickly, and two LP pressings have now also sold out. So we don’t expect these to hang around awhile.

20 years ago today Annelies Monseré and Jessica Bailiff began a friendship and musical connection that has resulted in numerous tours and collaborations. Recording together with a new project Hydromedusae, they have carefully crafted an excellent debut LP which will be released soon on Trome Records. A meeting point in their revered solo careers, this beautiful drone-folk record is one we’re proud to be a part of.

20 years ago, I met Jessica Bailiff in Café Den Hemel. I was already a fan of her music, but we also connected personally right away. We started touring and playing music together a couple of years later. The impact of her music & friendship has been immense & wondeful. Today, I am more than thrilled to announce that an album we made together (under the moniker Hydromedusae) will be released soon on the wonderful Trome Records.
