I’m not sure how I didn’t know this before, but New Year in Antigua involves throwing cake!

It all started with Irish migrants who moved to Antigua as far back as the 17th century and they brought their traditions with them. This included Old Year’s Night, akin to our New Year's Eve.

Old Year’s Night is still celebrated widely throughout Antigua. At The Great House Antigua guests can take part in the festivities by strolling through the estate and playfully throwing or hitting doors with cake and bread. This charming tradition is believed to ward off bad luck and hunger in the New Year.

The Great House seamlessly blends tradition and modernity. So, the Old Year’s Night revelries culminate with spectacular fireworks and live music, creating an unforgettable start to the New Year.

I’d never even considered that someone could make a chocolate specifically for one person. But Sophie Vanderbecken did that for 18 special people on her life , including a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, using ingredients such as agave, to***co and gardenia. And I have the say they taste totally delicious.
