🇺🇸 60% of the market is governed by US buyers.

🤔 Has the unusually slow season been because this chunk of the market has been holding off waiting for the outcome of the election?

So what now….

Ok let’s start with the positives (as always 🤩) there’s a lot of talk about how Trump could extend provisions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) past its 2025 expiry.
If that happens, we’re looking at some major tax breaks, which could lead to more disposable income for high-net-worth individuals
👋 Hello, superyacht sales!

BUT…

😧 There are some who are worried that Trump’s administration might bring back tariffs to protect American manufacturing. If tariffs are implemented, it could drive up the cost of imported materials, making yachts more expensive for consumers! Ar!

If costs go up, buyers might hesitate, and that could slow down new builds. 🤦‍♀️

Unfortunately even I don’t own a crystal ball 💁‍♀️
So, unfortunately it really is a bit of wait and see until the political landscape becomes clearer..

👋 Ok back again

📸 More NYC spam. 🤔 Is this review number 4?

No idea - what day is it even?

Oh we love to talk about “sustainability” in this industry don’t we?

🌍 GREEN
🌍 ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
🌍 SUSTAINABILITY
🌍 REDUCED EMISSIONS
🌍 CARBON-FREE

These buzzwords were everywhere at 2024’s boat shows.

🤓 For many builders, improving efficiency and lowering emissions are realistic goals. Even without alternative fuel systems, builders are making strides by embracing efficient hull designs, lighter interiors, variable-speed gensets, waste heat recovery, batteries, smart HVAC systems, foils, vanes, and solar panels. More advanced setups like diesel-electric or hybrid propulsion also offer significant gains by replacing large main engines with variable-speed diesel generators that power everything from hotel loads to propellers.

🙄 But come on, let’s get real!

The numbers are still tiny. Out of 1,138 superyachts in this year’s Global Order Book, just 45 have hybrid setups, 36 are diesel-electric, and only eight are fully solar-powered. It’s clear the industry still has a long way to go.

💰 The reality is many builders lack the resources for extensive R&D, waiting instead for off-the-shelf solutions or client-funded projects.

Some examples, Feadship ‘s hydrogen fuel cell project. CEO henk de vries has committed to making all new Feadships hybrids of some kind.

Lürssen is exploring methanol reformers for fuel cells.
Sanlorenzo Yacht is working on a 50-metre yacht with a methanol system set to debut in 2027. The yard has already delivered a hydrogen-powered foiling chase boat for the US America’s Cup team.

😬 Greenwashing makes me nervous!

The progress is undeniable, but the numbers show we’re only scratching the surface.
Sustainability in superyachting is no longer a far out dream—it’s a work in progress.

❓ The question is, are we working quick enough to can turn these promising innovations into industry standards?

Hope you are enjoying my reviews!

👋 Ok … good news - I’m back with more of a review of the Global Order Book 2025!

😬 The bad news? There’s more NYC spam 📸

➡️ Swipe for - Instagram V Reality!

What is on order?

There’s a lot to unpack. Let’s go..

➡️ Sub-27m Motor Yachts, these seem to be running out of momentum.
The sub-27m semi-custom yacht market has taken a hit, with a 10.9% drop. Rising costs and changing tastes could be to blame? I just think this area needs a shake up, some disruption!

➡️ The specialist segment is where it’s at!
🎣 Sportfish yachts - thanks to Viking Yachts, are steady. ⛵️ Sailing yachts - are also doing just fine with 71 projects on the go. Big names like Royal Huisman’s 81m hull 411 and Echo Yachts’ 57m sailing catamaran are keeping things exciting.
🏔️ Explorer yachts thought, these are it!!! - a record 105 are in build, up from 99. These go-anywhere vessels now make up 9.2% of the order book. Cantiere delle Marche is leading the charge with 20 builds totaling 80m.

➡️ There is big demand for the big boys too!
So, while the 24-37m range is a bit wobbly, things pick up for yachts over 37m. Very large yachts (100m+) are looking good for 2025, with 25 on order—one more than last year. Germany and the Netherlands continue to shine here, with Lürssen, Oceanco and Feadship smashing it!

➡️ My thoughts ?
The explorer boom and demand for the big superyachts are good news, but the industry can’t ignore challenges in smaller segments.

We need fresh ideas and a bit of boldness!

Hope you are enjoying my reviews… until tomorrow 👋

📸 ⬇️ Ok … so I might rebrand as ‘The Smith’ 😂

Anyway .. continuing on from my review of the Global Order Book 2025, let’s go into more detail at shipyard level!

There a mix of evolving key players and newbies, perfect! 🙌

🇮🇹 Italy’s Azimut|Benetti Group and Sanlorenzo Yacht continue to dominate the leaderboard, but for the first time in nearly a decade, Italy’s production has dipped by 1.2%.

🕵️‍♀️ The secretive Ferretti Group (Ferretti, Pershing, Riva, Custom Line, CRN, Wally and Itama brands) has once again declined to share its order book, but its expected they would hold third place if we they did declare their numbers.

🇳🇱 So officially we then look to Feadship - a favourite! However, their numbers could be a little bit of a fake as they are hugely boosted by the delayed delivery of Launchpad, its 118m flagship.

🇹🇷 Turkey’s shipyards, like Bilgin Yachts continue to grow despite those challenges I spoke about in my previous post around labour migration.

🇬🇧 The UK is also seeing revitalisation, with Sunseeker International Ltd and Princess Yachts under new ownership! Both are refreshing their models and I can’t wait to see this boost their orders!

📈 18 of the shipyards on the leaderboard are repeats from last year. 8 have grown their order books, 11 show declines.

⬆️ Let’s look at those 8 on the up!

Cantiere delle Marche is up by three projects on last year, as is Taiwan’s Ocean Alexander, which is building another facility in Kaohsiung. Sunreef Yachts has also had a good year, an enjoyed its first year in its new yard in the UAE. Baglietto Yacht run continues, with 20 projects on its order book, including a number of full-custom builds. Palumbo SuperYachts, Bilgin Yachts and Viking Yacht Company, meanwhile, have posted impressive order book growth of 24%, 29% and 34%, respectively.

🤩 Here come the newbies! FC Cube (France), Ladenstein Yacht (Austria), Rockport Marine (US) and four in Turkey: U4 Marine & Interiors, Fabbro Yachts, VENTO YACHTS and Yacht Factory!

All ones to watch! 👀

Hope you are enjoying my reviews… until tomorrow 👋

🕺 One hand in the air for the big city!
🗽 Yes, I dressed as the Stat Libs
😂 Yes, I just called it that!

So continuing on with my thoughts after reading the Global Order Book a few hundred times 🤓

Let’s look at the top builders by nation …
🇮🇹 Italy’s been the undisputed king (queen) of superyacht production for decades, (since 2000 when it knocked the US off the top spot) still making nearly half of all yachts over 24 meters. But it’s a little concerning for them that its order book has dropped for the first time in nearly 10 years! Only slightly with 1.2% but a drop is a drop!

So, what’s going on here then?

🇹🇷 In 2nd place. Well, Turkey is on a mission! With an impressive 8.9% growth in yacht production this year, Turkish yards are really stepping up, delivering yachts that rival the best of the best. Their speculative approach—building yachts before even landing buyers, shows they’re not afraid to take risks. But there’s a challenge on the horizon: a lot of skilled Turkish workers are migrating west in search of better pay, which could (will!!) drive up labour costs and potentially eat into Turkey’s price advantage.

🇳🇱 Let’s not forget, the Netherlands in 3rd! So they are still steadying themselves after some disruption (thanks to those frozen Russian orders)

🇬🇧 🇹🇼 Next up, the UK and Taiwan show an overall decrease in their production but hold solid order books for the coming years.

🇩🇪 Germany holds its original place, 6th! Building the big boys were the average size almost hitting 100m

🇺🇸 Let’s hear it for America! My new favourite country
(😉) in a surprise 7th place! This is the sportfish effect for sure!

🇦🇪 Keep your eyes on the UAE! Quickly becoming a new hub for superyacht production, with Sunreef opening a facility in Dubai.

🇫🇮 Finland’s Baltic Yachts and Nautor Swan are holding strong with solid order books.

🤔 My thoughts? The superyacht industry is evolving fast. With Turkey, the UAE, and others emerging as serious competitors, the big players may need to up their game to stay ahead!

🎲 Game on!

What does one do on a flight to NYC? ✈️ 🇺🇸

🥂 Champagne for breakfast to start (of course) but then a study of the Global Order Book 2025 (or is this just me 🤔 🤓)

I’ll delve into more detail in future posts but … for a start.

💥 It seems the superyacht market is doing better than expected! We see still cruising the post-Covid boom!

⬇️ Yes, the number of yachts in production has dropped a bit in 2024 (from 1,203 to 1,138) but that’s still way ahead of the 821 seen in 2021.

🤩 What’s really exciting is how shipyards are thinking ahead! Building on spec so they have readily available yachts to capture the ‘I want it nows’

🥰 Even though there are fewer yachts being built, the ones in the works are bigger and more luxurious. The total gross tonnage has jumped by 5.3%, and yachts are now averaging 40 meters and 507 GT!

✨ It’s clear numbers that show buyers want larger, more extravagant yachts!

👀 The next few years are an interesting watch but for now, at least, the trend is all about bigger and better yachts!
