Though September heralds the end of summer, it is also a month associated with huge change.

Whilst January brings its own set of “New Year, New Me” promise, September is often overlooked as a month where new beginnings and significant change are afoot!

From the children starting school, or back at school, or at a new school, to the parents heading back to work fully after the holidays. There are those starting new fitness regimes now the holiday excesses are over, and many commencing new training courses, or moving away to university. Many businesses, particularly those in our part of the world where the summer tourism peak has just ended are taking stock and embarking on new season, and next years’
plans. Locals can enjoy a slightly quieter Cornwall once again and revert back to the shorter pre-summer journey times when heading out anywhere!

Far from being an end, we see September as a beginning, and an exciting one at that!

What new adventures are you starting?

Hello September!

There’s a slight autumnal chill in the air now, and leaves are looking mottled. It won’t be long before they begin their spectacular metamorphosis from green, to gold, to red.

It’s back to work and back to school for many of us this week - summer is over in that sense, but hopefully we have many sunny days to enjoy ahead!

It’s the last day of the meteorological summer - just where did that whole season disappear to?!

It does look as though we have some fine weather ahead of us though so fret not! Summer may be almost over meteorlogically, but the summer sunshine seems set to stay for a while 😎🌻🕶️

How will you be spending the end of the season?!

To the sea!

Today is National Beach Day, and living where we do, blessed with over 300 miles of coastline and 400 beaches accessible by foot, we really are spoilt for choice!

Whether you seek huge swathes of sand, or calm and sheltered coves, the diversely varied coastline here in Cornwall offers something for us all.

Beaches are for life, not just for summer and many of us use our fantastic beaches well beyond the summer months - whether it be for walking, surfing, shell-seeking and foraging, cold water swimming or just to sit a while and breathe the sea air.

We really are lucky to have so many beautiful beaches on our doorstep - where’s your favourite?!

We’re not sure about anyone else, but we’ve noticed some subtle changes which indicate autumn is on her way.

The days are already feeling noticeably shorter, bracken is starting to turn that beautiful rust colour, wildflowers have mostly gone over now, and (possibly courtesy of all that rain we had earlier this year) brambles are heaving with the promise of a bumper harvest of blackberries yet to ripen.

This year, it may have felt as though summer barely had chance to get started, but we are keeping our fingers firmly crossed for an Indian Summer!

What seasonal shifts have you noticed?

From sofa snuggles to teatime tail-chases, our four-legged friends always know exactly how to make us think ‘dog only knows what I’d do without you’.

Today is National Dog Day so what better excuse to show your precious pooch some love in return!

National Dog Day, also known as International Dog Day, is a time to come together and celebrate our faithful furry friends. Whether you’re a proud pawrent or furry fanatic, National Dog Day reminds us to show appreciation for those cute companions we can’t do without.

We know what you’re thinking – isn’t every day National Dog Day?? Well yes, (…ok, not
officially), but why not have some extra snuggles or an extra long walk today to celebrate your faithful companion?!

Hands up if you’re excited for the bank holiday weekend!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Seemingly in a blink, August has almost passed and we find ourselves at the start of the long summer bank holiday weekend with three days ahead of us to enjoy some sun, socialising and time outdoors (if the weather plays ball!).

As it’s the last bank holiday before Christmas (yes, we said the “C” word!), here’s hoping for a lovely three days before we begin the transition into autumn - you never know, we might get an Indian Summer as we’re certainly not ready to give up our flip flops for a while yet!

Wishing you all a wonderful August bank holiday weekend ☀️🌊🤞🏼

Cornwall, her landscape, ways of life, history and industry have bred and inspired many a creative to pen stirring and significant works of poetry over the centuries.

From Sir John Betjemen, to Charles Causley, Rev. Stephen Hawker, John Harris, Jack Clemo, Thomas Hardy, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and many more, there’s something about this part of the world that seems to get that creative streak flowing!

Today is Poet’s Day, so we’d like to know about your favourite Cornish poetry, or poet. Perhaps you write poetry yourself, or have a much loved verse from a poem inspired by a visit to our beautiful county. Share with us in the comments.

Hurrah! It’s Friday, the sun is shining and the weekend is imminent, so there’s much to put a smile on everyone’s faces!

Everything looks and feels better when the sun shines, but as a little extra bonus, today is Tell a Joke Day - extra smiles (or groans!) abound!

So in the spirit of the day, here’s our best (or cheesiest!) joke which we hope makes some of you smile….

It may just be one of the best weeks of the year……. This week is National Afternoon Tea Week!

Like we need any excuse to partake in cake, a birthday or celebration is not always necessary, and we think afternoon tea can, and should, be enjoyed regularly!

It's a perfect occasion to gather with friends, family, and loved ones to experience a great combination of good tea and, of course, lovely food.

Whether you prefer to go out for tea, or to prepare something at home, it’s guaranteed to hit the spot with all invited! Of course, there are lots of fantastic afternoon tea options locally with hotels, cafes and restaurants all offering their take on the tradition.

So we’d like to know where your favourite place locally for a really good afternoon tea is - let us know your favourites in the comments, and give them a well deserved shout out!

Ever since cats first began their unique relationship with humans some 10,000-12,000 years ago, they’ve held a special place in our affections.

Today is International Cat Day - a paw-some reason to celebrate our favourite feline friends!
Giving cat lovers a legitimate reason to share all those adorable photos and videos and to spoil their much-loved moggies, the event also raises awareness of cats living in shelters and waiting for their fur-ever homes.

Many of us have much love for this fascinating species, and for the companionship they bring 🐈🐱

With the mercury rising with the eventual arrival of summer, its so lovely to see the sun, but many of us are just not used to the heat.

As lovely as the sunshine is, anyone can become unwell if they get too hot, and some people are at higher risk of becoming seriously unwell.

☀️ A yellow heat-health alert is in force across the South West until 9am on Friday.

Vulnerable people in our communities, including young children, might struggle with the heat, so it’s important to look out for them.

You can find more info on how to beat the heat here ➡️

Exciting news! Many of you will be familiar with Claire, our passionate and enthusiastic head of Media Sales and Client Engagement, and those who have advertised with us will know her for her positivity, and her “can-do” attitude.

Well, always one to rise to a challenge, Claire has signed herself up for a massive trek challenge in the Indian Himalayan Foothills in November 2025. Walking for a fantastic cause, she will be raising money for Children's Hospice SW and the amazing work they do.

The next few months will be a busy time for Claire as she trains for her epic trek, and to help spur her on we thought we’d share her sponsorship details - if anyone would has a few pounds available and would like to sponsor her to help her reach her target, any donation, no matter how small, would be gratefully received! If you’d like to help Claire reach her target for the charity to help support these brave families in the South West, visit:-

We’ve no idea how this academic year has seemingly flown by so quickly, but in a blink we find ourselves in the final days before most schools break up for summer!

Many parents will be scratching their heads at this stage with the full six weeks or so looming ahead of them - how on earth are they going to keep their little and not-so-little ones occupied for the full duration of the summer break?!

Of course, living in Cornwall offers many a free or low cost option of days out as there are always beach days, woodland yomps and moorland adventures to be had (weather permitting!). But what else is on offer this summer?

Are you a local business, youth organisation, holiday club, museum, or sports club that is offering summer holiday fun? If so, we want to hear from you! Send us info or let us know in the comments about your summer holiday events and we’ll share it on for you!

If you’ve got summer plans, or are looking forward to the kids breaking up from school soon, you're probably hoping for a bit of sun (oh, yes please!). But what if it rained non-stop for the next 40 days?

Today is St Swithin's Day - every year on this date, according to traditional folklore, whatever the weather is like on St Swithin's Day - whether rain or sunshine - it will continue for the next 40 days and 40 nights.

40 days of rain, or 40 days of fair weather……we know which we’d prefer!

The old poem goes like this...
"St Swithin's Day, if it does rain
Full forty days, it will remain
St Swithin's Day, if it be fair
For forty days, t'will rain no more"

Of course, there is little evidence or statistical evidence to support the prediction, but after a super wet winter and spring we could all do with more sunshine in our lives!
